Check engine, VSC, and trac off lights were all on today

My wife called after I had gone to work and said all three lights were on today everywhere she went today. I told her just drive it. She cut the van off at several stops today and everytime she started it back up the lights were still on. The last time she got in it this evening the lights went out. They were still off when she got home. I was wondering if anybody had any thoughts on this? I can't help believe this will show up again.

Get yourself a code scanner. Next time it happens, scan for codes and post here. Chances are, some emissions sensor was acting up, but cleared itself. It could come back on, you never know.

Re: Check engine, VSC, and trac off lights were all on today

Ours started to do that last fall, on for a short time then off then on more often.
Using a code reader iirc it was p0420, indicating a cat failure or o2 senser.
My code reader shows live data so my wife drove and I watched the data on the bank in question and one of the o2 sensers was jumping around a lot compared to all others.(voltage). Dropped to zero to trigger code, only for split second.
I changed that one, cleared the code again, and it's been great for the last 7 months.
You need a code reader hopfully with live data.
I hope this helps,
Colin

Same here...ours did same thing last summer...pulled the code...O2 sensor...at one point the lights went off but I got it to the dealer before the code got cleared from the ECU. So got a new O2 sensor under warranty...

IMO...everyone who wants to keep on top of their vehicles condition needs a code reader...I know shops will read codes for free...but that's not always practical. pick up a $40 one if need be. I

Had the same warning lights come on last night....where would I get a code reader for $40?

Everything I searched for came back at $100 or more.

Here's one for 30 bucks.

I got one of these from ebay for less than 20 bucks shipped. I use it with my smart phone (samsung galaxy s). Works great.

This looks great for the money. Do you use it with Torque, or a different app?

I may toss my old wired laptop based AutoEnginuity scan tool for this!

Yes, I use Torque (the free version ). Not sure about AutoEnginuity, but I imagine it should do more. If someone does get the ELM bluetooth scanner, the pairing code is 6789. The documentation on it stinks but I expected that.

Re: Check engine, VSC, and trac off lights were all on today

FYI: Mine lights were trac, vsc and check engine, all were caused by faulty fuel cap. The van 2005, sienna, was out of warranty and the dealer tried sell me service to the Traction control module and ABS, when i declined and took it to AAA, they showed me the the trouble codes and what the computer was reading out, it was all related to a low vacum pressure and was resolved with a new fuel cap. They reset the lights, tested the system and received a good reading for all sensors once the new gas cap was installed.

I'm sure the dealer would have tried to tell me after the fact that my gas cap looked like it needed to be replaced and it's only 24 dollars, so why don't we do that too. yeah. Stealerships.

VSC and Check Engine light on when put on Drive. The fix is to air your tires to 35 lbs.

That would be the O2 sensor, specifically Bank 2 Sensor 2. One of the two located under the car.

Possible causes:

Air leaks in exhaust in front of o2 sensor giving false reading
Engine running excessively lean
O2 sensor connector damaged/corroded
O2 sensor signal circuit is shorted to ground
O2 sensor ground circuit is open
O2 sensor has failed (it may be contaminated with fuel or coolant)
PCM has failed

Re: Check engine, VSC, and trac off lights were all on today

I had the CEL and VSC lights come on a few days ago...code showed low vacuum(can't remember the code) turns out it was a loose gas cap.
