oil filter wrench

Just thought someone might be interested in this wrench. It can be purchased through ebay from the seller "rooprict". Or, search for "sienna oil filter wrench". I purchased one and it fits perfectly. It is a quality product and is all metal construction. The seller seems to change the price and shipping terms, so I'd suggest watching his items for the cheapest combination.

I am not connected with the the seller, I just stumbled across a Prius forum where everyone was raving about it.

Re: oil filter wrench

I have a similar one made out of plastic that I bought from Walmart that works on my 07 Sienna and 98 Camry. What I do find is that these types wrenches do slip and the filter does get stuck in these wrenches. You'll have to turn it in the other direction to unstuck it.

I'm wondering if the rave about it from Prius forum is due to the fact that this is made out of metal instead of plastic (more environmentally friendly). Most Prius owners I've known are the organic, global warming fearing, tree hugger type.

I still find that the old conventional metal strap loop type oil filter wrenches work best...if you can turn the darn thing in such tight space in the engine compartment. The engineers who design these vehicles nowadays makes it really difficult for the home mechanic to do simple maintenance.

Re: oil filter wrench

Judging from the seller's feedback. There have been several people who are happy with it. Being that it is 64 mm and is made out of metal, it should work well.

Don't get those "cap" wrenches, get one of these spin-off-style ones, they work great

Re: oil filter wrench

I used to use the cap ones made of plastic, until I stripped it. Then I replaced it with a metal one until I changed cars, and then the filter size changed. I went back to the strap type, this time combined with a swiveling grip handle. Never bought a wrench since.

I use the classic strap wrench on all vehicles - I have two or three of different sizes, so I can use the most appropriate one. I have no problem using in on the Sienna, but we have the early second-generation with the 3MZ-FE (3.3 L)... I don't know what the 2GR-FE (3.5L) of 2007-up is like for access.

I've never tried the interesting three-jaw design.

Re: oil filter wrench

It works great because you can put on the end of a 3/8" socket wrench.

I bought a similar one from Pep Boys once and it split open. One of the rivots or something broke making it useless.

Sounds like your oil filter was on way too tight!

Re: oil filter wrench

Hey Brian! 07 and up have replaceable cartridge. Don't think we'll be using a strap wrench on that!

Not really. I hand tighten all my oil filters. Maybe I just had a defective piece.
