Re: Automatic Transmission Fluid

I picked up the 04 with 65K on her and had a BG tranny flush done at 75K; shifted hard initially but soon smoothed out; then learned later how tranny fluid really works so it's never been a big deal and I'm considering BG stuff on the rest of my drive-train, any suggestions?-

Re: Automatic Transmission Fluid

While draining the pan, you might want to consider replace the drain plug gasket... Just my $0.02.

Re: Automatic Transmission Fluid

Does it use the same paper/ fiber gaskets as the oil pan?

Re: Automatic Transmission Fluid

Usually either metal or plastic for the PLUG. I don't remember a gasket on the transmission pan plug. Are you asking about the pan gasket itself? Shouldn't be any need to remove the pan since there is a drain plug in it.

Hi Dave.

Thanks for starting this chat forum. I drain and refill (DIY) every 25K, and buy for about $5 per quart for the T type genuine Toyota ATF on my 04, but I think 07 and newer uses type W (please check your manual) which is more expensive, and propbably do not have an equivalent generic brand yet.

Re: Automatic Transmission Fluid

Excellant info on ATF Fluid. I am used to GM products that had a filter to change in the transmission. Just to confirm! My 2007 Sienna has no transmission filter to change?? Just oil??

Re: Automatic Transmission Fluid

there is a transmission filter. Basically what your doing is not taking off the transmission oil pan. Just the draining of some of the fluids.
