2005 Sienna CE roof rack???

Hi there,

We have a 2005 Sienna CE and far as we know there is no possibility of any kind of roof rack. Hubby apparently researched this extensively after we purchased it and found nothing. We're now going on a camping trip in a few weeks and I have no clue how we'll fit all our gear inside. We have 4 kids so all rows of seats are taken. We can put some stuff between the kids (pillows for example) and one plug-in cooler but I have no clue how we'll possibly fit all the camping gear and luggage for a family of 6 in the trunk alone. Anyone have any experience with this? Any roof rack possibilities I'm not aware of or packing techniques someone can share?

Any advice is much appreciated because I'm really at a loss here...

Thanks,
Karen.

Re: 2005 Sienna CE roof rack???

Unfortunately, there were two different roof bracing structures used for this van, and the CE seems to lack the welded-in corner braces with the threaded posts for the factory roof rack. The question came up two years ago, and I've wondered if a good body shop couldn't simply drop the headliner and add suitable corner brackets, as the sketches in the body repair manual show exactly where they would be.

If I were cargo-limited, I'd consider a hitch-rack cargo tray. I bought a 22" x 60" unit at Lowes Homecenter made by Carry-On Products for around $75 to carry dirty stuff that I don't want inside the van, like bags of mulch, soil, manure, etc., for the garden. I've even carried lawn mowers on it. Simply add a 2" receiver hitch (Curt hitch on Amazon for $150), and you are good to go. No lighting adapter needed if you are just using it for cargo.

Current: '15 Sienna Limited Premium (FWD), '14 Subaru Outback, '13 Honda CRV AWD.

Past: '08 Sienna LE (FWD), '02 Subaru Outback, '02 Honda Odyssey EX
