2007 LE with TPMS ECU needed?

Just purchased a new to me 2007 LE with 68k miles and the only thing I can find wrong with is the TPMS light stays on. In the service history, it notes that it needs a TPMS ECU and Antenna. Any ideas on where to pick this up or for that matter what they run? Being the ECU and not the transmitter, I'm going to say it has to be a valuable piece of equipment. TPMS wasn't a deal breaker for me, but it certainly helped in the purchasing... Any thoughts?

Did you get a reliable diagnosis on the TPMS light? You should learn what the stored TPMS error code(s) is, because problems with TPMS sensors are much more common than ECU problems.

Assuming that it really needs a TPMS ECU, they are available: Toyota PN 89760-08010, and it will set you back around $450 new, or consider this one on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Toyota-Sienn...-/180627377451.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to take it in for a recall check next week and I'll see what they can tell me. Thanks for the link, for a $75 part I don't mind fixing it, however, I'm sure I'll have to take it somewhere since the sensors and receiver would have to synced. For $450, I can check tire pressure every now and then.

    You're welcome!

Toyota near me charges 1 hr ($80+) to program the serial numbers of the sensors, but I hear many independent tire shops now have the tool and charge around $50 for the service. If you regularly change wheels (winter tires), check out the ATEQ Quickset tool (wheel & tire section of the forum) for home DIY.

You can also buy a cable for $59 and do it yourself. I have a Mangoose cable...

Is this what you are talking about? http://www.obd2.mobi/Mangoose-toyota...ce-P-1545.html

What can it do? The website doesn't offer much info. Have you used it to talk to the TPMS system for entering sensor ID numbers?

Is this a knock-off of the Mongoose cable that's part of the Toyota Techstream lite laptop system? Is that a Techstream disk faintly visible in the picture? The real thing is like a grand? Does it work? What subsystems can you communicate with?

Re: 2007 LE with TPMS ECU needed?

Yes, that's the product, and I have it, but bought it at http://www.uobd2.com

I've used it successfully on my 2002 Sienna to read and reset DTCs, and am able to activate tests (ie EVAP). I've used it on my 2010 Prius to customize settings like the seat-belt warning. It communicates with the K-bus, and hence the TPWS ECU.

The software included is a copy of Techstream, which you may use in evaluation mode free for 3 days; or longer if you're mildly savvy about software. Using Techstream, you can register TPMS ID codes, as long as you know them. Each TPMS sensor has its ID on it, which is inconvenient if it's inside your tire. Shame on Toyota for making customers go to a dealer or tire shop for this type of thing, when even GM managed to avoid this hassle in their design.

I was quite hesitant to buy from China, but am glad I did. My unit arrived in days, and I've gotten my money back easily (and it used to cost $169!).

Re: 2007 LE with TPMS ECU needed?

Wow, they have all sorts of goodies at that site. I have the basic AutoEnginuity tool, but to add full Toyota interface capabilities would cost around $1200. To talk to the TPMS alone I recently purchased the ATEQ Quickset for $150. To get all that power for $60 I know that there are a hundred reasons for not supporting the dark side of electronics thievery, but it is very tempting...

You "get" why I was vague. I'm not a hacker, but believe owners should have access to their products.

Sorry for the delay. First, thanks for the info on the scan tool. Took it to the dealer for the vvti oil hose recall and key cutting, they came back with 2 bad trasmitters, not the ecu. Good news I guess. Probably going to wait to get new tires to fix it, as it's not something I find extremely imperative.

Re: 2007 LE with TPMS ECU needed?

Fortunately, sensors are way cheaper than a TPMS ECU. Glad to hear that's all it is. I bought 4 on ebay for under $100. This guy sells a ton of them:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/TPMS-Tire-Se...39328117670477

When you do get them out, please report on any signs of corrosion or anything else you see. I'm curious as to what would cause the early death of two units. Thanks!
