Overhead console lights for Homelink

Oy vey! last night I noticed the backlight is out for one of the homelink buttons.
(*) (**) (***).

it's the first one that's out. I have the service manual, but can't see it anywhere in there. Anyone know how to take the overhead console out? I noticed that there are two screws under the conversation mirror.

Keep in mind, i'm a dolt that has done nothing more than change the wipers, and remove the wind deflectors. But, with proper instruction, i can manage or so I think.

OT:
so i figured this morning, i will post on siennaclub.org to see if anyone knows. Sad to see it's died. Did anyone get in touch w. Jack? What a pitty. Thanks for putting this site up for us to reconvene.

Re: Overhead console lights for Homelink

Welcome [armedmetallica]!

Glad to see ya here!

Sorry about the bulbs. I have also recently suffered a burned-out dashpanel bulb (for the power sliders/hatch...I can't remember which one). I've been too lazy to fix it so far.

Good luck & see ya 'round the new neighborhood! 8)

Re: Overhead console lights for Homelink

Ok, I had to replace a bulb in the overhead homelink console so here is what I found when I took it apart.

First remove the two torx screws from the front of the panell.

Then lower the front of the console and pull down on back of console and disengage front clips to remove. (They were in there pretty tight for me)

Then disconnect the three wiring connectors.

You will notice that there are five individual lights that corespond to the five buttons on the panell. They attach to a circuit board with a press and turn type base. Simply turn them about 90 degrees counter clockwise and lift them out of the circuit board. I used a small screwdriver.

Replace with the new bulbs and reverse the process to reinstall the console.

see attached pictures:

Good Luck!

Re: Overhead console lights for Homelink

Anyone know what type of bulb is needed for the buttons? I'd like to get the bulbs before I take it apart, since it's my wife's van and I can't leave it in pieces.

Re: Overhead console lights for Homelink

Here are the rest of the pics:

I think the bulbs will be a dealer only part since I have not seen their type before.

I just checked with three dealers in the Orlando area and the price for 1 replacement bulb (PN 9001111038) was $7.53, $4.66 and $6.50 respectively. Nobody had them in stock and they would have to order them... would take about a day or two to get them. I guess I will order them from the cheapest dealer, unless someone else can hook me up with something cheaper?

so much different in pricing. No wonder we need to shop around.

Re: Overhead console lights for Homelink

That's ridiculous! They'd better come with a warranty for that price. Especially since they have already been replaced once, and only lasted a few months. I could see me at the parts counter screaming at the guy because a tiny $7 light bulb blew out in 2 months! Yesterday I replaced the original headlamp on my truck ... 13 years old. Wife already replaced the Sienna headlamp once or twice.

That's why the dealer does not have stock on the bulbs.. too many types of bulbs. Take it apart...find out what bulb you need...put it back together.....order the bulb(at a crazy price)...take it apart again....replace the bulb....and have your blood presure checked.

Re: Overhead console lights for Homelink

Thanks Scubajoe, I am interested in getting a set of 5 and replacing them all if they are cheap enough. I was looking closely at the bulb and found that the black outer fabric sleeve simply slides off. It must be for focussing the light on the button. I can't help but think that it must also make the bulbs hotter and help contribute to an early failure....

I also found that you do not need to reprogram the Homelink buttons. It remembers the codes. Yeah!

Re: Overhead console lights for Homelink

Our site sponsor gave me a price of $4.66 per bulb. Do you think that removing the black piece reveals a standard bulb of some sort? Guess I need to take it apart and see if I can find something that will work in place of that. LED replacements would be nice - shouldn't have to worry about them blowing out again.
