2005 Sienna Door Lock Problem

Hi all, new to the forum here, but not to auto forums in general. I've had some great experiences with the folks over at PlanetIsuzu as well as TheSaabSite that have saved me a lot of money and headache over the years. I'm pleased to be a part of this forum and look forward to being a part of the community.

Right before new years, my wife was involved in an accident (not her fault) which totaled our trusty 1993 Isuzu Trooper. We ended up getting a great deal on a 2005 1-owner, dealer trade in Sienna w/ 146K. With anything with a great price, there are at least a handful of quirks that I aim to get sorted with help from you folks.

First on the list is the power lock system. When I hit lock/unlock everything works except the driver side door itself. It's best explained if you think of the lock mechanism in terms of a rifle firing mode. (Bear with me here). When functioning normally, the lock should behave as if it were a semi-auto rifle. One click of the button one actuation of the lock. The situation I have is more like a full-auto, one depression of the lock button, and the lock mechanism goes rapid fire making a clicking noise. It almost always ends up in the unlocked position even if I'm hitting lock. Sounds like a relay spazzing out. If that doesn't make sense to anyone, I can record a video and post it. It should also be noted that the door lock will not work from the outside when manually inserting the key in the driver's side door. It came with one key fob which is non-functional. (Replaced battery, put van in programming mode and it wouldn't read the fob, so it's probably dead)

It's been difficult to get good google results on this issue as the majority of search results are bogged down by posts I see regarding the sliding door actuator.

Anybody have this issue and able to advise?

Cheers from Massachusetts!

Here's a video of a Mercedes exhibiting a similar problem. Obviously, it's a completely different vehicle, this just serves to illustrate the sound/behavior the lock on the driver side door of my Sienna is exhibiting:

Based on the fact that the other symptom involves the manual unlock not working tells me the latch assembly is mechanically bad. I replaced one of those on an older truck and don't think I'd do it again. Huge pain. I'd suggest hire a mechanic.

Re: 2005 Sienna Door Lock Problem

My wife tells me that the key works sometimes, but the lock mechanism almost never ends up in the locked position after it's rapidfire locking attempt. I've ordered a replacement door lock actuator. Will post back with results.
