Toyota Sienna 2010 XLE / Limited Full integration aftermarket DVD head unit & RES sys

Hey guys, first time poster here. I recently bought a 2010 sienna limited, with the RES, navigation system (JBL amp). A few days after purchasing the car the navigation system stopped working. After much research, i realised that fixing the unit or replacing with a refurbished oem part would be be expensive, to say the least. And run a high risk of the head unit breaking down again. I decided to go aftermarket, spent hours on the Internet researching the best way to get it done, called Crutchfield, PAC, Access and Idatalink to figure out the best way to get everything working(OEM 6v backup camera, Rear entertainment system, digital amplifier, steering wheel controls, bluetooth etc). They all said ot couldn't be done. I'd have to sacrifice one thing or another. They were wrong and it's much easier than I thought it would be. This is an older car and im not sure how many ppl, if any, are in need of the info I gathered to make it work. If anyone is, hauler at me, I'd be glad to go into me details.

Re: Toyota Sienna 2010 XLE / Limited Full integration aftermarket DVD head unit & RES

Very interested! I have a 2004 Limited w/JBL and no Nav, that I need to upgrade with NEW. Would like to know what unit you installed, and how you integrated all the factory functions.

Thanks
Bob

Hey Bob, first off the res of sienna 2004 ro 2006 are harder to integrate. They seem to be powered from the oem unit. So I'm not sure if you'd be able to integrate the rear DVD player to your new aftermarket system. As for the rest of the oem components this is what I bought from Crutchfield and how much I paid:

Kenwood DDX374BT
1 1 0 CAD $ 379.99

Metra 95-8208 Dash Kit
1 1 0 CAD $ 12.50

iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR Interface Module
1 1 0 CAD $ 95.00

iDatalink HRN-RR-TO1 Factory Integration Adapter
1 1 0 CAD $ 28.00

This kit is pretty much plug and play, aside from the back up camera(idatalink maestro does the 12v to 6v conversion), but still pretty straight forward all in all. For my car these components allowed me full integration minus nav (didn't want to pay extra on the head unit). I do get a lot more with this system compared to the oem unit. Idatalink has a connection for the OBD2 in your car. It gives you a lot of info on the car through your head unit, tire pressure, speed, rpm etc. Much better bluetooth connection, USB connection with fast charge for phone, much better microphone and more. You get to choose and add controls for your steering wheel.

Some of the new head units have a specific connection for the idatalink module, very cool.

Re: Toyota Sienna 2010 XLE / Limited Full integration aftermarket DVD head unit & RES

Thanks for the info. My van has no camera or rear DVD so this unit could work with wheel controls. Rear of van has headphones and control function of stereo that I want to eliminate anyways. But need to remove unit and install blank off plate. But can't figure out how to remove unit from headliner. Anyone know how to remove it from headliner?

Thanks
Bob

Re: Toyota Sienna 2010 XLE / Limited Full integration aftermarket DVD head unit & RES

We have a 2009 XLE with Nav, Rear DVD, and JBL. Audio coming from the head unit through the van speakers started sounding like a badly skipping CD yesterday. I also looked at junkyard/refurbished head units and was shocked at the price. I am now thinking of going the same route you did for replacement, although I'm not sure how to determine if the problem is for sure the head unit. Could my problem be the amp or some other component causing problems with audio output?
