1st Generation Sienna P3 Brake Controller install

Of course there are 4 wires on the "generic wiring kit".

12V
Ground
Brake Switch
Trailer feed

I just can't get to brake switch on the top of the brake pedal bar. (Any suggestions?)

Can I use a brake light feed wire instead? (Brakes only, no tail light or blinker). If so where is a good location for me to start finding a brake wire?

Since the Sienna has separate stop (brake) and turn lamps, it should be possible to use a stop lamp wire... but I'm surprised that this might be necessary. On the second generation the brake pedal switch is easy to reach (okay, as easy as any under-dash wiring...), but of course the first generation might be different.
