Unhappy Electric sliding side doors

Is there any one else that has had to replace the door lock assembly inside the auto side doors I would like to hear from you, these range from $709.66 for the left door to $563.95 for the right door. There is nothing wrong with these locks. They will tell you that the cables have stretched and that is wrong. The real problem is in the latch on the door post.If you look closely you will notice that the latch assembly is on the outside of the rubber door seal exposing it to debris such as road salt dust and other hazards. When this latch gets dirty it will not close properly and the sliding door can and will open at any time while the vehicle is standing still or driving. In other words you have no idea when the door will open. This problem has been misdiagnosed by both the Toyota techs and the Toyota Engineers. So if they have made you pay for this costly repair i would like to hear from you. They have now issued a recall after i exposed the problem to both the Canadian warranty rep and a Toyota engineer. both of my doors had these assemblies replaced and a week later the same problem returned. After a lengthy investigation on my part i determined that the latch was the problem and set out to make a foam seal to surround the latch to prevent any debris from entering the latch. The problem has disappeared since my design change and that has been since June 2014.My total cost to have Toyota attemp to repair the two doors was $2088.58 I'm looking for other Sienna owners with the same problem to lobby Toyota to have our funds returned.

Re: Electric sliding side doors

Have you received a recall notice similar to the one we in the U.S. got?

Your case might hinge on whether the repair indicated by the recent sliding door recall will be performed on your Sienna or if you will be told that the earlier repair fixed the problem associated with this recall.

I am assuming you have a 2011-2016 Sienna since the older ones are apparently not included in the recall. It would be helpful if you were to include basic information about your Sienna (e.g. "2012 Sienna XLE") in the optional signature field that shows with each of your posts and also to put your location in the location field so that you don't have to tell us what country you are in.

I don't think the door cables can "stretch" unless the strands of the cable fail and the cable starts coming apart. The right side door of my 2014 Sienna would not fully open electrically when parked on even a mild downhill slope when I bought it and the problem was fixed under warranty by adjusting the cable tension.

Re: Electric sliding side doors

Since the recall has been issued, you should be able to ask for money back on your own no? Time to bang a a few tables and ask the Toyota dealers to be a little bit more accountable for the problems. Just remember to go easy on the service staff. They're just working and aren't responsible for company policies regarding refunds. Good luck mate!
