hello, i have a 2006 sienna ce that overheated the twice. now the engine is making this ticking noise. from what people/mechanics said
it's likely a sticky lifter/s or bad valve/s.
brief history:
front end damage due to collision with deer in 11/2011. fenders, bumper, hood, headlights, ac compressor/condensors, and radiator were replaced.
about a week or so later, van overheated and coolant was dripping under radiator. took van back to body shop. it was determined that a faulty o-ring was the culprit. replaced o-ring, van ran/drove fine until this july. van overheated again. this time we we're our way out of town. maybe got 20 miles.
pulled over and checked radiator/bottle and it was bone dry. bought a couple gallon of coolant and added to radiator. wait about 2.5 hours and drove back home.
the next morning wen to start the van and now makes this really loud ticking noise. crawl under and looked at radiator no sign of leaks and no coolant on the ground/floor.
i'm thinking head gasket may be bad or head/block was warped after the first overheat. than it was slowly leaking/evaporate coolant until this year when it was completely out.
so far, coolant level has been the same since i added coolant back in july. and again, no visible leaks anywhere.
i know i need the hg replaced and possibly lifters/valves too. let's hope that is it and nothing worse. what do you guys think?
i was going to take the front vc off and look if the noise is a lifter issue but wasn't sure and can't tell if its the front or rear where the noise is coming from.
thanks
