Cylinder Misfire P0304, P0300, Engine Rattle, Loss of Power

It's a 2007 Limited AWD w/ 38K miles. A few days ago I noticed a lack of power on hard acceleration. I also noticed a faint rattling or clicking noise from the engine under acceleration from a standstill, even after the engine is at operating temp. Sounded maybe like valve or lifter noise. Checked fluid levels and everything looks fine. Oil cap looks clean. Oil is dark but nothing noteworthy (synthetic w/ 8K miles on it) Then today it threw a CEL, P0304 (cylinder 4 misfire) and P0300 (multiple random cylinder misfire).

Anybody else experience cylinder misfire problems?

A couple things comes to mind. Don't worry about the P0300 (this is just telling you have a misfire)

Now #4 is in the front(yippie). First i would remove the plastic cover and see if any "mice" or animal has gotten up there and chewed some wiring(#4 is the middle cylinder if you did not know) Now if everthing "looks" good try swapping 2 coils around and see if your code changes(swap coil 4+6) if the code comes up as P0306 then you have a bad coil.

Let us know what is going on.

No sorry, but thanks for playing.

The correct question is, "What is failure of the cam position sensors."

For playing our game show today, Toyota will be taking off the head and replacing a bunch of stuff that sounds like it will take a long time and cost lots of $$$. BTW, did I mention Toyota will be paying for all this!?

I had a bad camshaft position sensor 1-2x (I forget) in my '96 Nissan Maxima. I was told that it will eventually leave you stranded if you do not get it attended to. In my case, I learned to remove it and clean it (it was actually very easy to do). It was simply a fancy "magnet" and when it got dirty from metal shavings/engine debris it caused the engine to malfunction and the warning lights to come on. Unfortunately, "cleaning it" was only a TEMPORARY fix. It really needed to be replaced. Mine was/were also replaced under warranty....some "not-too-expensive" price for the actual part IIRC.

I do not know if it is different in the Sienna.

    YMMV.

Hey smackboy1, did the dealer end up replacing the engine for you? What was the cause of the scored cylinders? Did this fall under the failed VVT-i TSB?
