    New Sienna break in?

    Hi, all
I just purchased my new Sienna 4cyl base model.
When I was driving a 90-miles home, I made a mistake setting the shift to "S".
I noticed the engine kept running at about 3000rpm.
Would that do any damage to the engine during the break in?

    Thanks

It shouldnt because its just a diffrent type of mode so it registers how you drive in that mode rather than D.

But if you want to be extra safe and want to reset it... (i am not sure if it works with the new gen but it probably will)

unplug one of your battery connections and wait about 10 minutes, then plug it back in. This should reset it. I used to do this with older cars i had.

    Good luck

Not the slightest issue. it just locks out 5th and 6th gear and runs in 4th. Some would suggest it's actually better for the break-in of the engine to spin it more than lug it in the upper gears. You don't need to do anything. Enjoy the van.

I agree. Not a big issue. As long as you keep it under 60 for the first 2K miles. I have been doing this for all my cars and see the difference with my friend's cars.

I'm sure you'll be fine. 3,000 rpm is not much stress on a modern engine. And there have been arguments for generations over the easy vs hard break-in procedure and when to do oil changes during this period. Have you ever heard of a stock street vehicle having engine failure or damage or shorter engine life that's been attributed to "improper" break-in procedure?

So, the best bet is to follow the guidelines given by the folks who made your engine.
