Windows make "popping" noise when opening

I have a '10 LE. I bought it new and from the 1st day I bought it, when I open the windows(Driver, passenger, or either sliding door), my windows POP when they leave the window trim. When it was new, I was told sometimes that happens on "new" cars. Now that I have 26k miles and moved to another state, I am told that sometimes the window trim does this after the trim "weathers".

Has this happened to anyone else?

It is still under warranty, so I will require my Toyota dealer to fix it, no matter what, but, I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

BTW, I absolutely LOVE this van. Yes, I am a man and have been called "soccer mom" but I have a trailer hitch(after-market) and pulled boats/trailers and a bike carrier. My family recently bought a Grand Caravan with ALL the bells and whistles for much less than I paid but the interior seems so much "cheaper" than the Sienna. I had been a Ford(Escape) and Mazda(Protege) owner and both vehicles were excellent.

If you can't easily reproduce it in front of a dealer it can be a real pain to convince them there is a problem. I don't have any popping windows, but some of the doors were making those sounds in -40 weather this year. They told me i'd have to bring it in while that was happening or they wouldn't be able to help.

By the way, just curious but why do you have a Grand Caravan and a Sienna?

I think I know the sound you are talking about, and if you look carefully at the glass where it seals to the rubber trim you will probably see some very fine residual bits of that trim stuck to the glass. It is literally sealing to the glass, and tearing away with a 'pop'. I saw this on my '08 Sienna when I bought it last year.

Begin by cleaning the glass thoroughly. Windex, even a single edge razor blade, but be careful not to score the glass. Hit the autoparts isle for some Mothers, Meguiars, etc. rubber and trim conditioner. Even better is Shin Etsu silicone grease. In a pinch I've even used STP Son of a Gun or ArmorAll. Work it into the rubber. It will make the van quieter, especially true for the sliding doors, by allowing the seals to properly nest against the glass and metal. But it won't make them stick, which is what causes the pop/tearing and the winter icing freeze-ups.

Our van has done this since it was new. As fibber says, cleaning the edge of the glass where it enters the weatherstripping helps, but the windows still make a very slight popping sound when opening. I haven't tried silicone grease on this window edge because the sound doesn't bother me that much, but doing so would probably decrease the sound even more.

Put silicone spray on a cloth and wipe the inside of the seals (where the window edges touch) with the windows down.
