We are paying for fairly robust coverage IMO with no plan to drop limits. We were just quoted $768/year. Perfect driving records. No idea if this is reasonable, although the premium doubled for us after trading in a 2010 Subaru.

To help you compare, here is our coverage breakdown:

Bodily Injury Liability $500,000 / $500,000 $66
Property Damage $250,000. $49
Personal Injury Protection $40,000 $59
Uninsured Motorists Bodily Injury $500,000 / $500,000 $9
Underinsured Motorists Bodily Injury $500,000 / $500,000 $29
Other Than Collision w/Full Coverage Glass - $1,000 Deductible ** $296
Collision - $1,000 Deductible ** $251
Vehicle Optional Coverages
Roadside Assistance ** $9

total $768

Insurance rates vary so highly depending on geography and driver history it's pretty damn useless to compare.

That said we have 100/300 coverage with the same coverages for uninsured motorists and comp+collision, and we are paying ~$1200/yr for the van, and that's with $2k deductibles.

I was surprised by how little our insurance went up by adding our new 2021 Sienna. Maybe increase of tops $200/6 months. Maybe because of the safety features? Or minivan drivers are in a lower risk class? :)

We’ve got low coverages right now relative to yours, so our premiums are way below yours. Not really helpful to compare, IMHO.

Minivans are almost always in a lower risk class. Simply because statistically, minivans are less likely to be involved in accidents.

Here in NJ, we have rather high insurance rates. Not necessarily complaining, since I live very close to NYC, where the insurance rates are out of this world. But, minivans having cheaper insurance was actually one of the top reasons I bought one :)

My self-maintained, reliable, used cars don't depreciate much, or have significant maintenance/repair costs, so insurance is the most expensive part of car ownership for me. Actually... with my current pattern of driving, it looks like TOLLS might surpass my insurance cost this year!

Florida as a whole is a disaster, and South Florida is especially bad. The reason though is because of vehicle thefts occur at a higher than normal rate, affecting comprehensive rates, older population being more risky drivers and costing more in medical payouts from accidents, and most importantly, the number of uninsured drivers in Florida is more than 2.5x the national average. 1 in 10 drivers nationally are uninsured; in Florida its 1 in 4 drivers. This really drives up premiums.

Search to find your state insurance commission. They will usually have comparative rates for most of the insurance companies licensed in your state, and you can quickly see which company offers the most competitive rates.

That’s a good rate for the coverage amounts. We pay about 880/yr. just had $15/mo increase, pissed me off as I just negotiated a better rate and 2 mis later, it goes up. I called and was told they were allowed the rate increase from the state due to rising auto body shop costs. Haha. It’s a necessary evil in my book. But you gotta have it. We also have the home owners ins with them. That helps. Twos boys getting towards the driving age. Not looking forward to how they’ll jack me on them driving. Ugh

I have two cars. One if for daily use, and one for special days. I like to go hunting and staying nights in the forests or on the beaches, so I also have a Jeep Wrangler. I am not paying too much for its insurance. I am not paying too much on its insurance because it has done not have coverage for everything. For example, it is insured from drowning and other deteriorations that can happen while exploring nature. Before going to the insurance company, I read on moneyexpert.com what coverages I need for such a car.

lol, my commercial policy would make you all blush.

For 1 year of coverage, I have paid $4100 so far, until progressive decides that they need to change my policy on their end again and charge me more. This is a little bit less than it was with my cargo van, which was $5700 a year. This is for 250/500/100, plus 250/500 under/uninsured, plus 20k economic loss, plus a $500 collision deductible and glass coverage with zero deductible.

for reference, Zero accidents, zero tickets, our zone risk just went up again thanks to all the climate change deniers fleeing to cooler places in the midwest, and the personal policy on my 2020 highlander hybrid is only $850 a year.

I suspect my commercial policy will go up again this year, just because they can, and there aren't many companies willing to insure small courier services anymore.

I wanted to share our insurance story. We're shelling out $768/year for what we think is pretty decent coverage. It's a bit of a jump for us since trading in our trusty 2010 Subaru. Our breakdown includes a $500,000/$500,000 Bodily Injury Liability (costing us $66), $250,000 Property Damage ($49), and a few other bells and whistles. Honestly, not sure if this is a steal or a splurge, but we're happy with it. Anybody else got a similar setup? Also, quick shoutout to a fantastic Mortgage Broker in Basildon who helped us navigate the insurance maze. They threw in some solid advice on this too. Any newbies around here?
