  1. 2004 sienna won't start

Problems, Maintenance, and Repair (Gen 2)
Hey, you never told us why your car didn't start. That's not the way it should work!
  2. Replace 02 sensors with new exhaust pipe?

    Mods and Projects (Gen 2)
Did the job take care of your codes? How was the condition of your Air/Fuel sensors? Everything well? I was hoping to hear the exciting conclusion to your story.
  3. Major improvement in gas mileage accomplished by 5 minute procudure - 2004 sienna

Problems, Maintenance, and Repair (Gen 2)
Hope it helps you Crow. Whether or not your Sienna has this issue (I think most 2004 models do), a vacuum leak is a likely cause of poor mileage. On second look, replacing the "intake air control valve assembly number 2" does not look overly difficult, although it is a reach and not a lot of...
  4. rear shock absorber for 2007 sienna

Problems, Maintenance, and Repair (Gen 2)
There are 2 different shocks used for the 2nd gen Sienna rear shocks: one intended for the 7-passenger van and a different one intended for the 8-passenger. This is the Toyota OEM part no. for the 8-passenger van: 48531-AE030
  5. Major improvement in gas mileage accomplished by 5 minute procudure - 2004 sienna

Problems, Maintenance, and Repair (Gen 2)
I hadn't read the full TSB by Toyota in detail previously, but like you I would assume that lower VIN numbers are the defective vehicles, i.e. lower than the PRODUCTION CHANGE EFFECTIVE VIN number given.
  6. Major improvement in gas mileage accomplished by 5 minute procudure - 2004 sienna

Problems, Maintenance, and Repair (Gen 2)
Thisyear: It's a good bet that this is at least part of your problem. If you are using an OBD-II scan tool with spray from a can of carburetor cleaner, you will see immediately whether this is part of your problem. If you skip that step and go right to the grease, be sure to grease it a full...
  7. Major improvement in gas mileage accomplished by 5 minute procudure - 2004 sienna

Problems, Maintenance, and Repair (Gen 2)
Hi Fibber, I had done a search here before but didn't find it. Sometimes it is hard to find what you want when you need it. I should emphasize that, in contrast to what the TSB suggests, you can still have this problem without the MIL light coming on, as in my case, and the fuel cost penalty...
  8. Major improvement in gas mileage accomplished by 5 minute procudure - 2004 sienna

Problems, Maintenance, and Repair (Gen 2)
I will try to take a picture of that and post it as I will be unblocking the A/C drain after that long trip I took. Tape will not work because it is not a flat surface and it is a pivot point. Vacuum leaks are probably the first thing to look for if you are experiencing poor fuel economy or...
  9. Major improvement in gas mileage accomplished by 5 minute procudure - 2004 sienna

Problems, Maintenance, and Repair (Gen 2)
Major improvement in gas mileage accomplished by 5 minute procedure - 2004 sienna In recent years, I noticed that the highway mileage on my 2004 Sienna dropped significantly from 24 to 25 miles per gallon down to 21 to 22 miles per gallon. To correct this I did a number of maintenance...
  10. Help? Anyone know where to get a cheaper Carbon Canister??

Problems, Maintenance, and Repair (Gen 2)
Could try cleaning the canister and taping the crack with aluminum duct tape. If that seems to work, I would also paint the top of the tape so it doesn't quickly oxidize away.
  11. 04 Sienna - Lack of Power

Problems, Maintenance, and Repair (Gen 2)
2004 Siennas often have vacuum leaks at the Intake Air Control Valve. This messes up fuel trims and gas mileage. See my post at the end of the thread: http://www.siennachat.com/forum/77-how-guides-do-yourself-instructions/8594-how-i-changed-my-rear-spark-plugs-2004-sienna.html
  12. How I changed my rear spark plugs in the 2004 Sienna

Problems, Maintenance, and Repair (Gen 2)
My highway mileage dropped from 24-25 mpg to about 21 mpg. This is why I decided to change spark plugs. It didn't help. I did a number of other things like cleaning the throttle body and the mass air flow sensor (MAF). The mileage stayed around 21 mpg, well below what it had been for most of...
  13. How I changed my rear spark plugs in the 2004 Sienna

Problems, Maintenance, and Repair (Gen 2)
No, I didn't check dealer pricing, but I think I read elsewhere that it was over $400 and that may have been a few years ago. I think sometimes it is good to dive in and get to know your car. In this case I wanted to make sure I could pass the statewide emissions test that was due. I discovered...
  14. Can I change to synthetic oil?

Problems, Maintenance, and Repair (Gen 2)
I tried using some Castrol GTX which contains an anti-sludge additive and then in the next oil change a Castrol synthetic or semi-synthetic motor oil in my 2004 Sienna LE at around 75,000 miles/5 years since it was on sale. Then I switched back to my usual non-synthetic Mobil 5W-30 for the next...
  15. How I changed my rear spark plugs in the 2004 Sienna

Problems, Maintenance, and Repair (Gen 2)
These are my notes for changing the 3 rear spark plugs on the 2004 Toyota Sienna. The approach that I took to create access to the rear plugs was to remove the air filter top and the throttle body which are connected together by short lengths of "fan-folded" rubber air channels. Having completed...
