I recently took off my driver's side sliding door to paint it and thought I had reattached it properly, but while it opens and closes, there's now a loose latch at the bottom that prevents the door from opening fully.

This photo shows the general location of the latch. Here you can see how it blocks the door unless you manually lift it. Every time I flip it up, it just falls back down. A closer look of the latch offered no clues, and when I looked underneath, I could find nothing for it to hook onto. I have to assume it normally stays up via tension from the wire, but that's as much as I can tell.

I found nothing in any of the components diagrams in the Repair Manual. Does anyone know what this is, what it does, and — most importantly — how to fix it?

So it turns out it's a safety lock to prevent the door from sliding into a fuel hose. Since I'd removed the fuel door to paint it, the button was no longer being pressed in and the safety lock engaged.

Mystery solved!
