Good day folks,

Owned Toyota for many years (4) Camrys, 06 Sienna, and a 21 Venza. My sister has a 2018 Sienna with Cyl 1 issues. She went to the dealer and in the end suggested a job to replace Cyl 1 bank (head) and inspect rest of engine for damage at the cost of 9K. This is what they wrote up for Diag.

9K for that job, and 16K for new engine, labor included (I hope) I know this engine is in all of Toyota/Lexus portfolio, and the only issues I've heard of is oil seal leaks, other minor items. Anyone have a similar issue? I saw one post on a bad spring.

That check by the shop mech is very detailed and through... Good job.. Those prices are nuts, but its dealer... Maybe source a independent shop.
Get a used engine put in with warranty from independent shop that specializes in engine replacement.. Some used engine sellers shops do installation.. Get some prices..
Or buy another used van....
Also might want to get second opinion if $$ is no problem before any engine work.. Although that report seems legit, very detailed..

how many miles on this motor ??
no way in hell i'd pay 9 grand. First issue: it went to the DEALER. If it's just the valves, independent shop would probably do that job for 2k to $3k. USUALLY low compression for toyota is piston rings (well known issues), head gasket, sometimes valves. Wouldn't surprise me if the dealer is trying to pull a fast one for some needed cash.
always always ALWAYS get a second opinion !!!
guess what I'm saying...take it to a trusted shop (local guy not corporate). Verify codes. have them check compression, that will cost roughly $100-200
if cylinder is in fact low compression, get a quote for the valve job.
best case scenario would be spark plug/coil (very plausible is the compression is ok). Again you are dealing with a dealer so they could be trying to pull a fast one to make money.

Same thing i told her she could get a used engine installed for half of that. I also recommended to call corporate, since it only has 117K on it.
