Hi everyone. Hopefully this post makes sense. I have a 2008 Sienna FWD and I am trying to get a hitch installed at the local Uhaul. The installer said two of the six bolts are tapered on some Toyotas (including mine). So he can't complete the installation unless I order the OEM bolts and bring them to him. He said Toyota does that so I buy from them and have them install the hitch.

I called ToyotaPartsandService(.com) and the guy there said he looked at the hitch they have there for the '08 Sienna and all six bolts are the same and none are tapered.

Has anyone come across this issue of tapered screws before? If so, is there a place I can buy them? If not, does this guy at Uhaul just need to try harder ???

Thanks.

I don't know if the '08 was that much different than my '05, but all the bolts were the same.

The only difficulty that U-Haul had while installing mine was that the van was first sold in Maine and all the mounting holes needed to have the threads cleaned.

Thanks to both of you for your reply. I had a feeling this guy was doing something wrong. Now he says the hardware package that was sent with the hitch was a mistake (sent for a domestic car rather than a foreign car). I'll give him one more shot at it with the different hardware. Otherwise, I will probably have to do it myself.

Thanks again,

I had purchased a 78270 hitch from Uhaul for my 07 Sienna. 6 bolts...all the same. I don't think the '08 is any much different.

Since I'm in S. Calif., there wasn't too much crud build up in the holes. I took the bolts and cleared them by inserting them in by hand at first before installing...to make sure they fit ok.

If you look at my pic, you'll see the hitch. I would recommend you get air bags for the suspension in the back. See the corner of the hitch receiver is scuffed. You bottom out going in and out of your driveway if you don't install and inflate them.
