hello all,
I have a 2008 Sienna XLE with 78K miles on it (1st owner). Friends told me that in general, Toyota cars of 10 years or older begins to have problems therefore not worthwhile to keep. Could you share your experience if you have similar Sienna?
thanks in advance!!!

LOL at 'Not worth keeping'. Your friend is probably the kind of person that gets a new car every few years when the warranty expires keeping them in a constant cycle of debt.

There's nothing unique about Toyotas after 10 years. Just like all cars of that age, reliability depends mostly on how well it was taken care of beforehand. If regular maintenance was done and continues to be performed, there's no reason to think it won't keep going.

I use my 2008 XLE every day to shuttle my kids around and besides the lower oil pressure hose that blew out last month, it works every day. Currently at 140K miles.

Best thing you can do to keep it going is to keep up with all fluid exchanges and fix any small problems as they pop up before a lot of little things start to accumulate.

Any other questions or advice just let us know.

At 8 years old, you are going to have some repairs. I have a 2006 Camry with 190k+ miles. The biggest repair was changing the catalytic converter around 150k. Other than that, normal maintenance stuff. The Siennas are by far the most reliable minivans on the road. Yeah, you can get a bad one but at 78k miles and 8 years old, you would know by now.

Here's an article by Consumer Reports on Cars that will last 200,000 miles. Guess which vehicle is in it. Share this with your friend. If you want a new car, by all means, buy one. But don't get rid of it just because of fear. You will need a lot of repairs for your vehicle to be "not worth keeping"
