We bought our 2011 Sienna in 2017. Our DVD remote stopped working (presumably because one of the kids stepped on it), so we bought a universal remote that should have worked. It didn't so we went to a dealership and bought one from them (they double-checked the VIN to make sure it was correct), but it doesn't work either. There were no instructions with it. Does it need to be programmed? If so, how? If not, is our DVD player just not working right? It still plays DVDs, but they can't access other features without the remote.

I don't see anything in the manual about programming a new remote controller and I don't remember anyone having difficulty when they purchased a replacement.

Did you remove the plastic insulating sheet between the batteries and their terminals in the new remote controller - it's explained in the manual.
