Hi, I’ve tried searching the forum, but not much success. Would like to know if it is possible to swap 2.7 L 1AR-FE with the 6 cylinder 2GR-FE engine that is available for the same generation Sienna. Are the mounts the same? Is the switch relatively easy if you have the harness/ecu/transmission?

Anything's possible but......often swapping the same engine from adjacent years is a nightmare. Shutter to think of what else would need replacing, programming, etc. Doubt it's ever been done. Cheaper, simpler and safer to just swap vans.

Reason I’m considering it is the van, 172k, has already gone through three catalytic converters, and burns through a quart of oil every tank of gas. I don’t think this was the right engine for the van, and I’m hesitant to do work on the same engine if the outcome will produce same results. Appreciate the inputs!

Its possible, if you can find a donor sienna then by all means, but if you mean you can only get the engine and swap it, then no: its next to impossible.
ECUs are different, computers are different harnesses are different.
Cheaper way is to find a donor V6 or just get a V6

The 2011+ 2gr-fe is an excellent engine, and should easily attain 300k miles. I suspect you have a problem with the powertrain at the root cause of the symptoms you describe. PCV, oil leaks, bad O2 sensor, vacuum leak, something. Troubleshoot the root cause and replace the V6 engine with a low mileage used engine from LKQ.

That's what I did.

You will need a donor van for sure. Way too much stuff is different. I do believe all cradle points are the same as far as body.
IMHO. Better off selling your Sienna and getting into another. It will not be cheap. Not even sure how insurance would work??
Imagine a insurance company insuring a Ford Mustang with a V6 with you swap in a V8? I know it is a minivan. I am making a point that it is modified. Insurance companies need to know this. Honestly I don't care but if you get into a accident and they don't know they "could" refuse the claim. Again. I don't care

not sure if this helps, but I put a 2012 Higlander V6 in my '08 Sienna when head gasket blew a couple years ago. It was the same V6 motor designation 2GRFE. Might open up your list of donor vehicles a bit! I did not do the swap myself, that sort of thing is above my comfort level, but I don't recall the mechanic that did it running into any significant issues.

The quick answer is "no". You'd have to change everything, including the front suspension, since the struts are matched to the engine, trans, and accesories. They aren't even identical left to right. You'd need to change everything, not just the engine, Trans, ECU, TransCU, wiring harnesses and fuel pump. Look under the hood of a V6, change everything that's there.

Buy a used V6 Sienna instead.
