Hi,

I have a 2015 SE Premium and all of a sudden, today morning while taking the car out of the garage, i noted the below issues:

• Traction Control OFF
• Check Engine Light ON
• Check Charging System ON
  • Another indicator on during this as well which I don't know about.

Considering I have only had it for about 3 months and hit 3766miles on, its surprising and a bit of a shocker to see this.

I have an appointment at Toyota Sunnyvale [where I purchased] to have it looked at. Hopefully I'll have something good to report about by 10/22/2015.

Any advice on if I should keep driving this till tomorrow?

Of course the dealer is your best bet, but I'd try disconnecting your battery cable for a couple of minutes, reconnect and possible your problem may be solved...Like a computer, needs re-butting once in awhile...After doing this drive around for a bit so the vehicle computer can sort things out.....Might also check the water level in the battery while you at it...Good Luck

The last indicator is: Electric Power Steering System Warning Light according to the manual: Indicates a malfunction in the EPS (Electric Power Steering) system→ Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immediately.

I would suggest not disconnecting the battery now. While it may resolve the problem, the solution would be temporary at best, and you don't want dealer to not find any problems at this point. I have a feeling your charging system is malfunctioning. If battery or alternator is the problem, chances are sooner or later the battery will be depleted and you will be stranded on the road. I suggest if possible, get another ride until your car is fixed. You also have Toyota roadside assistance. I suggest you utilize it to tow your van to your dealer. I wouldn't take a check engine, power steering and brake malfunction indicator lightly.

I am willing to bet the problem source is a small part malfunctioning and things would be resolved within the day if not within the hour. Good luck

Did you close the gas cap properly? Charcoal canister can also lit up those warnings.

Hi all, thank you for the immediate replies.

I took it into the Toyota Service centre here in Sunnyvale. Service attendant looked and said the same stuff you guys shared. They are having the alternator checked and the battery looked at.

I resisted the urge to reboot the battery and just took it in. Its only been 3months and less than 4000miles, so its all under warranty.

I should know in a few hours as to what happened and how soon I can have the Sienna back. I'll update once I hear back.

Hi all,

Update from Service: We have rebooted your battery and reset all the systems. The 'Check Charging System' should be an anomaly, please do bring it back in immediately should it show up again.

They seemed to think that this shouldn't be happening on a 3month old car with less than 4000miles on it. Which is my thought as well. It's concerning and hopefully the problem goes away. And yes, I will remember to close my fuel-cap tightly seeing as that can also lead to the same 'Check Engine' light!

Much ado about nothing then! Poppy was right, to suggest you to reset the battery.

Well at least you have the record with Toyota, in case the problem comes up later and beyond warranty period.

Happy and safe driving to you as well! My daughter's four year old classmate was killed by a car in front of her school yesterday, while she was crossing the only street separating the school from her home right across the street; with her mom watching from the porch. Some stuff shakes you to the core. Had to share this, hopefully my fingers stop shaking soon.

Yea, I was tempted to do it myself but since its only been 3months, I knew warranty would cover it. And like you said, its in the record with a Toyota Service now. So, should this pop up again, I'll have reference.

Thanks for the warning, i have a 4-year old and drop her daily at school. My deepest condolences to the family that is suffering the loss. Its saddening and deeply disturbing to hear of such fatalities near the school. Hope your daughter is fine and you are too.

Hello Everyone,

New to the forum.

My wife's Sienna just had this same issue come up. She did the same thing where she took it to the dealer they assured her it was just something that needed reset and said to call if it came back on. That was last night and this morning it came back on during her commute into the office. She is calling the dealer again. The Model we have is the 2015 Limited Premium AWD.

If anyone else has this issue, please reply. I would like to start tracking this to see if it is systemic.

Ousio, if the battery and alternator tests are coming out fine, I suspect, you have a bad battery connection. Till date, I recall we've heard only from one another poster apart from you from the 2015's.
Also, I have a feeling somehow your battery maybe suffering from low charge. Perhaps because of short commute and likely drains to a precarious level during start-stop process. For example, I have seen that the rear overhead entertainment system if left on for long while the engine is not running, drains battery significantly and very quickly. i just got the same problem but mine was 2017 SE base i just got it last december 2016 less than 3 months old wew this is really sucks brand new car with checked engine light that's is unusual... just checked in with Toyota and they say they will diagnose it. will update the result.

I have a 2015 Le AWD. At 9 months I had a bad battery. Wouldn't start. Was at work .5 miles from dealer. Got a jump drove it in. Bad Johnson controls battery, got a new start Toyota no charge. There is TSB recall on an oxygen sensor. It shorts out. Mine did. Traction control was off, and check engine. A p420 code.

Brought it in. And they ordered part took two months as this recall from 11-16 just came about last August. They are concentrating on airbags and making a pliers of new parts takes time I guess.

I checked the code with my own Bluetooth odb 2 checker. Elm 327 with droid scan pro, and odb car doctor

API zone will also scan codes before you go in. But if you see check charging system with engine running or battery light while driving or running engine. Mention that and go to dealer or call Toyota care! Hope this battery holds. It's charging allot when I start and I don't abuse the electrics. Now 19 months. So 10 since I got the battery. Have them look up the 02 sensor recall. See if you can get that done. Just got mine. Happy now but no more snow here in lower NE.

I have a Sienna 2016 XLE with less than 5000 miles on it. I just had a maintenance service, a recall, and safety inspection done 3 days ago, but it is now showing "Traction Control Off" and check engine light on. I was wondering whether when they were fixing the sliding door circuit (a recall), they may have triggered other circuit problems.

Welcome! It's very unlikely that the two issues are connected, but you won't know for sure until the codes are read out. The TRAC light (and Stability) often accompanies a number of CEL events, as the system is smart enough to want to protect itself. Traction control and Stability control operation require a lot of engine management (throttle, ignition timing, etc.), so if there's misfires or other events happening, the ECU is smart enough to know not to take parameters into a potential engine damaging mode.

Hey guys a little late to the thread on this one but I recently had the same code P107D come up on my Sienna SE (2018) with 27k miles. Im not sure how or why this happens but a good mechanic friend of mine pointed me immediately to this "common" problem and it is now fixed. It is some sort of position or temperature sensor that the wire breaks on the pigtail. A little solder and some heat shrink and it was fixed. I too had the traction control off message as well.


SIDE NOTE: I wasn't able to clear these codes to get the check engine light to go off right away. Everytime I cleared it, it would come back immediately.... It was recommended to me to try to clear the DTC codes while the engine was running and magic happened. I heard a change in the RPM's as it lowered, the light cleared, and it idled so much smoother. After a few hundred miles with no issues I can confidently say it's fixed.
