WoW!
Just had Apple CarPlay installed on our 2015 Sienna SE.
We can now use Siri to Text, load Google Maps and use our current screen.
All functions work, and the wife is very happy.

Side note, this is a piece of hardware that has just come available.
Works on all SE's 2014 to 2017.
Toyota screen Resolution is good and acceptable.
Total Apple Iphone functions available.

Cost was about $800 installed.

That price is insane, just to get AA and Carplay. You can get a spanking new branded HU with wireless AA & Carplay. Check out the Pioneer W8400Nex or the new 8500. WIth the Maestro RR and TOY01 kit, it is mostly PNP and you can get map updates on fleabay for cheap

The reason, we went with the Beat-Sonic is my wife wanted to keep all the toyota features and have the CarPlay when we travel. So, for that reason we did not want to change everything and go with Pioneer, which is a great unit. I have a Pioneer in My Mustang, however, the Beat-Sonic integrates very nicely.
It is kinda like which way you want to go.
Good luck on your choice!

Does the BeatSonic unit use an external microphone, or does it leverage the built-in/factory mic? Their YouTube videos show an external mic being installed, but a comment from them states that they now use the factory mic. How’s the audio quality for phone calls? I like how their unit has an option to use the factory USB...

Thanks for your question,
The Beat-Sonic we have uses all the SE features. The OEM Mic is used. Again, the nice features are Siri.
Without our iPhone plugged in, all OEM features are still there.
With the Beat-Sonic plugged in, it is just like your phone. Text messages are audio played out.
The OEM screen is OK with google maps and works great.
Again, we did not want to install a new Pioneer radio, relearn all new features, lose some of the Toyota features.
As far as the quality of phone calls, we cannot tell a difference in quality. Sometimes the volume is greater and will need to be turned down 2 clicks/notches whatever you call it.
As always, you learn to adjust. It is user friendly.
We are happy with it.

Hope this helps -

Does the volume level show up on the screen as it is changed, like the factory behavior? Thanks for the info, I’m beta testing a different system right now, but am looking into alternatives as a backup...

Yes, volume level shows up on the screen as it is changed like the factory behavior.
Everything is like OEM.
What alternative are you looking at? Appreciate if you keep me posted.
Thanks,
Herb

it’s the VLine kit from GROM Audio GROM Audio | VLine Connected Car Infotainment System | Maps Apps Mirroring Video Interface | CarPlay-like Experience

not sure if I really would use all of those features as I mostly care about CarPlay support. Being able to stream videos would be a nice-to-have since I don’t have an SE Premium.

it’s a tad more expensive than the Beat-Sonic kit, but full disclosure - I got the VLine unit at a discount for being a beta tester.

@Herb2015SiennaSE how quickly does your rear view cam come up when you shift into reverse? The unit I’m testing has a delay - basically when I first start the van, the welcome screen pops up along with the default warning message (with the “continue” button) and then I have to wait for the unit to boot up, and then the rear view cam shows up.

I usually shift into reverse seconds after starting the car, so before I got this test unit installed, the warning message displayed for a split second before the rear view cam showed up. Is there any delay with the Beat-Sonic unit?

how is the unit after a couple months of use? Is the screen resolution fuzzy? Is it possible for you to take a picture of the screen while running CarPlay or waze. I understand it won’t be super sharp but would like to see it before purchasing. Thanks

2 Months has elapsed and I can give a fulll report.
1st there is a slight learning curve.
The Toyota processor is not very fast as it is an old 2015 .
I asked my wife who uses it most and she indicated it is wonderful.
We have iPhone 10R's and they work good. However, apple upgrades
the OS and last upgrade, things moved around, but, we adjusted and
all is OK.
The Screen is good and fairly sharp. Some of my photo are real sharp
some are not as I was taking at an angle. So judge of the sharpest ones.
First unlock your Iphone, then plug it in. Push volume button 2 times and
all comes to life.
Photos are in order.

does the unit have any bearing on how quickly the reverse camera shows up? I usually shift into reverse pretty much immediately after starting up - at least when backing up out of my garage. Would you mind posting a video of that?
