The Ohio legislature thought it was a good idea to charge a premium of $100 per year for a hybrid and $300 per year for an EV because we weren’t paying enough road tax. I wrote a letter to the State of Ohio asking where were the incentives for going green in Ohio but they did not want to hear it.
Republicans are owned by the oil industry. They hate EV and hybrids.

Here is Washington state prius registration is double 158 vs 83 for similar sized car. They are trying to figure out how to tax everyone per mile you drive.

My 2022 Sienna is getting only 27 mpg after the first 1,000 miles. I paid a premium for my license registration in Ohio because I was driving a hybrid And thought I would be getting much higher mpg as advertised. Any suggestion?
I’m sorry you were hoping for a little more mpg. My 21 LE FWD during the summer was routinely getting between 40 and 43 mpg. Then the winter hit. Driving the exact same roads at the exact same speeds (70), my mpg dropped to between 32 and 35. So close to a 10 mpg drop for me here in Kentucky. Since you are further North, I hope your mileage will increase significantly once things warm up a little. Good luck. I have a Chevy Bolt EV with a resistance strip heater. My average range using heat drops to about 150 miles compared to summer ac use range of about 220 miles running 70 mph.

I do not have the 1500W outlet and honestly I probably would never use it even if I did. There's enough USB chargers on board that everyone who needs a cable has one. I have no idea what the USB C ports are for. Love the idea about a space heater; that sir is thinking outside the box! Happy wife, happy life.

Observations about temperatures and correlation to fuel economy:
The gas engine noticeably runs a whole lot more when it's under 40°. When the temperatures are cold, I leave the heat off until the temperature is in the middle of the gauge. The heat blows much hotter and the engine temp stays higher as well. Don't set it at like 85°. Keep it at a much more modest temperature and engine coolant temperature won't bleed off quite as fast, forcing the engine on (and hurting MPG) It seems to do quite well at 72°. Another thing I do is when I'm going to be in town for a while, I simply turn the heat off altogether. This will make it as efficient as possible. When I know I'm about to get on the interstate or that the engine will be on for a while because of an upcoming hill or something, I turn it back on again.

+1 to the query about electric heat. I have mentioned this in other threads as well. EVs do have an electric heater that warms the cabin very quickly as soon as you get in. A minivan is a family vehicle. What parent would not want their kids to be as warm as possible as quickly as possible? Major oversight on the part of Toyota.

I'm quite confident that it's all cost. Everywhere you look in the sienna, it reeks of cost cutting. From the jiggly gear shift unlock button, to the floating console that flexes when you press down on it, to the massive panel gap in the third row cup holder area on the right side. Unrefined and loud engine. Seat bottom that is uncomfortable and hard as a rock. The list goes on. And on. They would not need to save that trick to meet new EPA minimum standards. They could be proactive and meet future standards now, but they probably save $5 per unit making it like it is, so they leave the customer who just spent $44,000 (in my case) on a vehicle with sucky heat when you need it the most. Toyota did not use to build vehicles this way. It is a real shame.
For months now the new Sienna's have so many complaints. Noise from the engine compartment, noise from the road and run flat tires, can leave the doors open, the quality of fit and rattles, can remove rear seats, head lights to bright or if you load the van it shines to tall for on coming drivers, can't install hitches with a 2" receiver, can't install load air bags, and you have been reading these threads as well as me. Using an electric resistance heater in the car is just asking for a fire hazard. I live in Iowa where it goes from -25 degrees to 105 degrees with 100% humidity. You need to run the heater at full on red heat for winter driving to full on cold blue for the AC in the summer. It is NOT SoCal with the windows down.

All the states will have to figure out how to repair and build new roads with NO gas tax funds. Recording your miles per vehicles on your state taxes will be coming??

Toyota has gone from a 250,000 mile van to a "do I want to even own this van". Try to find a 2017-2019 Sienna. My 2012 will have to be my keeper for a while. Don't get me started on a monthly charge to use a remote starter key.

They don’t have run flats. None of the Gen4 vans do.
the quality of fit and rattles
Like 10 vans out of the 100,000 built needed a bolt torqued in the seat. Not a huge deal.
can't install hitches with a 2" receiver
Except for the literally thousands of people who have done exactly that.
can't install load air bags
Again, many many people have done exactly this. There’s just no aftermarket option yet for AWD models.

I also live in Iowa and I’m convinced that your thermometer is broken.

You really don’t. Climate system works fine. Too many people just don’t read the manual and mistakenly keep it in Eco mode on those mythical 105 degree 100% humidity Iowa days instead of setting it to normal so it can keep up with the temp differential btw the outside and inside.
Don't get me started on a monthly charge to use a remote starter key.
There is no such charge. It’s included free. For 10 years on majority of trims.

For someone who reads so much, you sure do have a lot of misconceptions and errant claims.

Either way, if you don’t want one, then cool. That leaves one more available for others who are literally waiting 6 months or more on average to get one. ✌

The only complaint I’ve noticed to pop up really is with the rear seats not staying stowed when they are folded into the floor. Personally, I have no issue with the noise, my tires are nice and quiet. Just no issues really at all. My wife and I really like the van. Love the fuel mileage. Would buy another one in a heartbeat. An excellent cross country machine

Does the person with the Corolla who gets better mileage than you pay the premium charge? What about those with a diesel - I believe the the VW diesels that ended up having the emissions issues got 40+ mpg, did they have to pay the premium charge? It is crazy that they hit you with the premium penalty, we don't even have that is CA and it seems like if anyone pays a penalty for anything related to cars it is us in CA 😂🤣😅!

It is clear you don't want one so don't buy one.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I installed a 2" receiver without issues. If you have been reading up you would have seen a nice long thread with a bunch of owners that have done the same. I have spent plenty of winters in Wisconsin and rarely ran the heater on full or had to run the air conditioner on full during hot weather. It sounds like you are 6 months out of sync. Looking for 85 in the winter and 60 in the summer doesn't make a lot of sense. Perhaps a move to the southern hemisphere is in order.

I have a 2022 Sienna and it is fantastic! I have a second one on order and hope to take delivery in the next couple of months.

I’m sure this will surprise absolutely no one, but Alabama has a similar policy. The response I got from my state senator was that I didn’t pay as much gas tax as a regular gas vehicle so the state has to make it up somewhere. 😒

Mercedes, Toyota, Mazda, Honda, and Hyundai all have plants in Alabama that are currently building or plan to build hybrid and/or full EVs. Perhaps when the politicians begin driving hybrid and EVs those taxes will go away!
no they wont. all the little people will pay more and more so big wigs and politicians get bigger bonuses to pay for their policies for hybrids, etc. no breaks for the little guys.

Pay per mile, it will be equal across the board as far a road use taxes. However at registration time, a discount should be given for those that choose to get off the Petro pony ride by chosing alternative fuels and/or higher EPA.

Just figured I'd post these two pictures after a Friday night slinging some rides. Mixed city highway, more time in city but about even miles. No heat was used, and A/C was used for one ride only. NOTE the outside temperature in the first photo:

Your mileage may vary greatly. And awesomely. But you won't see it until the weather warms up. Or you could move to the south. Just not Nashville. We're full.

The worst we have gotten on a tank is about 25mpg in our 2021 Sienna AWD that was in extremely cold north east winter week and a bunch of remote starting and snow removal and some usually short trips. The rest were all city stop and go. Our old V6 Sienna AWD would have only gotten 14-15mpg in the same driving. So this one is still a huge diff at 10-11mpg better. Usually we get about 30-32 mpg on it this winter. All my previous hybrids always got worse than normal in winter, more so than regular gas only cars. on these northeast 10 degree mornings, engine had to run alot longer than on 28-30 degree mornings. Once weather warms up, I can get close to 35 sticker rating again.

Highway is a big diff, I can always get or exceed sticker rating with 4 adults and luggage. Our best was 38.0 mpg, NY city to DC and back. Our old V6 Sienna would only get 24.0 in same. Big diff.

Nice MPG! Can't get that in cold mornings here.

27 MPG! Wow, that is really low! When I picked up my new 2022 Sienna, the MPG indicated on the display was about 33 MPG. I now drive in ECO mode only and I am now up to 37.1 MPG. I also just returned from a cross country road trip and the tank really holds about 20 gallons when you fill the filler pipe. I routinely get over 700 miles per tank of gas. I am not sure what to tell you but I am very happy with the results that I am receiving!

I agree with your comments. I don't really have any complaints except for one, the NAV system is terrible! I recently returned from a cross country road trip and I am so glad that I took along my old Garmin GPS as a backup. You are not able to enter coordinates directly into the 2022 Sienna NAV system. I travel to areas that are pretty remote and can enter coordinates directly on the Garmin. Many locations without an address will have coordinates that can be entered. I can always open up the map on the NAV and locate the area and place that I want to travel to but that is time consuming. Also, there were times when I would enter an address on the Sienna NAV and the address would not be accurate; but the Garmin picked it up correctly. Finally, when plotting routes, the Garmin was much more efficient in doing so and I would rely on it for accuracy. I don't know who supplies the eco system for the Sienna NAV but Garmin has been at this a long time and obviously do a much better job. So yeah, the NAV on the 2022 Sienna is my biggest complaint.
