I just saw this on Facebook Marketplace:
2023 Sienna XLE HYBRID ⭐⭐⭐⭐NEW⭐⭐⭐⭐ ONLY 1 COMING IN Text or call [hidden information] Ask for Joby 337-789-JOBY(5629)
link: Log into Facebook

If this is legit (for a cash buyer) someone may want to check it out. Just dont offer a penny over the MSRP....that is ruining the market for the rest of us. I have a feeling this will be common in the next couple month. We are not quite ready yet but if you check it out please let the group know.

Most dealers by me are "advertising" $6 -7-10,000 markups. After an exhaustive search both online, phone and visiting many dealers and "sitting down" to make a deal, the best deal so far has been $3K over. Any lower and the salesman closed his laptop and stood up, saying thank you for coming in, I'll keep your phone number if prices come down in the future, but the car we are negotiating on is not even real yet. (no VIN, no allocation. just a markup on a future vehicle that COULD come in, in the next 4-6 months).
I learned this the hard way.
1 year ago, I negotiated a deal for sticker on a future allocation.
and waited... and waited.
Basically the dealer was doing deals and selling actual cars for prices much higher, so I was just held at the bottom of the list. For over a year now. Now that dealer wont honor the contract and wants $3500 over. Sounds Illegal. I would love to ask a lawyer. Does anyone know? I can send you the signed buyers order.
So I have started a brand new search among 8-10 new dealers.
And the best deal currently is $3K over on the NEXT future XSE that they get, and that could still be 4-6 months.

There is a dealer in CT that is apparently actually doing deals at MSRP with no BS fees. They have 15 people ahead of me for an XSE and they told me easily over a 1 year wait, or more...

So unfortunately for me, my original deal at sticker for the past year, is a scam. Even with a signed contract. Does anyone know if this is legal for them to back out of their own contract?
And I have unfortunately signed for $3K over sticker as the best current price in my area on an XSE.

You dont have to rely on Facebook. Just go to www.toyota.com and search for inventory that is not yet have a "sale pending" next to it. Call the dealer - leave them your name and call you if there is one ready allocation. If they take your $500 reservation fee - you are good. Better yet if they really have it on the lot - you struck gold. Dont think about it - just head down there with your checkbook.

Market Adjustment in 2023 is just BS.
If the Sienna is still selling so HOT, Toyota should be churning out more. There is no chip shortage. That chip shortage has been long gone. Stop using that as an excuse.
The economy isn't doing so hot, the interest is sky high, yet cars are still in short supply ?? I don't buy it.
I've been looking for a Sienna forever but I'll wait.

I really cant blame the dealers for trying....everyone else has a con game to try to get our money, so the short sighted dealers tried to cash in. Its a terrible idea for the dealers, bad for the dealer and bad for the customer.

Dealer...Client will (eventually) speak to others who bought their car at MSRP and they will be mad at the dealer and never return.

Customer...Clients who are desperate and pay well over msrp will regret it. Our needs change, and we may no longer want the Sienna..and another vehicle, perhaps a Toyota will fit our needs better down the road. If we got hoodwinked from the dealer, we are not gonna buy another Toyota. Its miserable to be "upside down" (owe more than your car is worth) and very uncomfortable to trade the car in (that is expensive to make up the difference between what you owe and what the car is worth on trade). Most people dont want to write a check for 4, 5, or 6000 dollars to sell or trade their car. Thus, they "have" to drive the Sienna. I dont want to drive cars "because I have to", but rather because I want to. This is why I negotiate and make sure I wont be upside down, just in case I dont like the car or needs change, and I need a different style of vehicle (pickup, sedan, etc). Finances can go south, too, especially with this massive inflation, so I dont recommend getting upside down in your vehicle and paying 5,000 over MSRP is a prescription for getting upside down.

Instead of paying 5,000 over msrp, pay 500 (or less) for a plane ticket to a place where they sell em for MSRP. Dont give in to their demands. Yea, they think they are "the only game in town", but you dont have to buy anything in the town that treats you that way. Its out and out disrespectful.

While I totally agree, you will not find a dealer with a Sienna on the lot, selling at MSRP. They are all 6-12+ months out with a waiting list. If I'm wrong, it's not due to a lack of trying myself. I have also been doing nationwide searches.
The biggest problem is dealers telling you an actual price over the phone or email, vs sitting down in person and getting a different price. I've already been burned driving hours away to a dealer who promised MSRP and no fees on the phone, then I show up and the contract is for $10K plus stupid fees. Bait and switch.

When Ive lost something or cant find it, I found numerous times, my wife pulls it out right away. Its incredible to me, when we look, for something we can overlook it staring in our face over and over. So, try one of 2 things:
1. Ask your wife to look for you, who will give it a different perspective. (Son, friend, etc).
2. Find a different perspective yourself. Stop using the same search engine over and over. If you use Car Gurus, try cars.com, If you tried both of those, try carfax. If you tried all those, do a google search of "Toyota dealers in southern Ohio", then repeat it for Indiana.
How did I find mine? It was a very small dealer who did not advertise on the big sites: Car gurus, cars.com, etc. I had bought another car from them, called the guy, and poof..we have a 2023 XLE Coming in about 4 weeks..
Persistence often wins when alternatives fail. It did not hurt at all, that I had a good relationship with the dealer.

I sold cars years ago. When you speak to a customer, the salesman "has to find out" if you are for real or not. Lots of people, for example, will call the dealer have no way to buy a car, perhaps, except "buy here pay here" lots which dont sell new cars.

So, you have to show the salesman YOU are FOR REAL, a live buyer. How do you do that?

For one thing, REAL BUYERS with money dont make promises over the phone they wont keep. Instead of saying "I want that car right now", say instead.
"OK, I had to head over your way this morning, and I would like to SEE this car. Trouble is, I dont want to drive xx miles, out of my way, only to find that car is sold. I need to find out if its easy to get in and get out. I dont want it if I cant get in it. (I have bad knees)."

(EVEN FISH are attracted to objects who appear are "getting away". He does not want this fish (me) to get away.)
I "put a condition" on it. Of course I dont want the car if it does not meet my needs!!!!! Including price!!! Dont be too anxious to buy or too anxious to marry a woman..you scare both of em off.

I had a hard time getting a girl friend, until I had another girl friend. Women think, "Oh he has no one..he is probably a loser". On the other hand, she says, "Gee, he is going with (a friend of mine)...I wonder if I can steal him from her".

If your money is "falling on the floor" when you call, or stop in, the dealer will doubt you are real. 16 year old boys would LOOOOOOVE to test drive a Corvette, but dealers wont think of it..unless they bring their Dad. Those 16 year old boys without their dad are just dreamin, they are not for real.

REAL buyers WANT stuff..discounts, freebies, etc etc. 16 year old boys who cant buy try to make you think they can.

It really is a bit of a chess game. And, I play chess really really well. I can wear a poker face.

So,

I have had a deposit in since August '22 for MSRP hybrid XLE Sienna or Highlander. This year I had been offered a Sienna XLE hybrid, here in Michigan, and passed on it. I also passed on Highlander hybrid wanting to first see the Grand Highlander announcement, glad I waited. I can hold off for now and hope to be near top list for Grand Highlander. Appears to have Sienna utility and SUV capabilities (modest off pavement, towing and style). Sienna for me would at least need new infotainment, possibly in '24 model? I imagine waitlists will soon be worked through, many won't want the higher payments or will want something else (like me).

I'm merely saying that in '23, we shouldn't have these shortages.
Toyota need to get there asses in gear and start producing more Sienna when they are selling so well.
There is no chip shortages any more. No excuses. Toyota is part of this "market adjustment" problem.

To @golfreak12 and others who keep repeating this: The Semiconductor industry remains in crisis with regards to capacity limitations and excessive demand. They are working to get things back on track.

NOWHERE are the constraints in supply more heavily felt right now than in the relatively small volume of higher end custom chips specified by the Automotive Industry. When automakers cancelled their orders two years back (a terribly short-sighted move), that capacity was shifted to other products. Weekly we see new supplier foundry agreements being signed as the car makers attempt to secure their 2024 place in line. Last week we had GM and GlobalFoundries sign a billion $$ deal for guaranteed capacity.

Last week's Reuters report: "By the end of 2023, almost 18 million vehicles will have been removed from production plans since the chip shortage began, according to Auto Forecast Solutions."

So please.... Get your facts straight. Toyota is in slightly better shape than some, but not by much.

It’s Feb 2023. Toyota still provides only 1 key fob per (new) car. No, they are not pretending there is a chip shortage. They couldnt get much needed parts from all over the world - mostly from Asia. This is a failure of JIT (just in time) manufacturing that made toyota rich in the lat decade.

i got 2 fobs too but that was 14 months ago. when did you receive delivery ? Anyway, Honda is also suffering from parts shortages. Just google toyota and honda’s sales figures from 2021 to 2022. You cant sell what you can’t make.
