Unfortunately our 22 awd platinum is down again. First time was thanksgiving and it wouldn’t accept gas. Three gallons was almost impossible to put in. Wasn’t sure if it was the pump or the van. Try again later on and same thing, gas pump handle clicks every time you squeeze it. Very frustrating and annoying. Call the dealer and get it towed. Four runner for a rental and a week later the van is ready. No charge. New sensors in the system under the seat on top of the tank. Service person mentions sometimes the entire fuel system has to be replaced from pump to injectors and pulling the fuel tank. I’m not confident just getting gas in the tank now. Every time the handle clicks I get nervous. Gas roulette.
Today was electric nightmare for the van. After a wet drive home with intermittent wind shield wiper issues. No variable speed and medium speed powering up to supersonic. I’m home thinking little about the wipers. I’m in and out and going to go in the van again and I get all the lights on the dashboard blinking and I being very weird. A parking brake warning was in the mix than basically nothing..no power no go nothing dead for the weekend and off to the dealership asap Monday morning. After what I saw on the dashboard I doubt it will be a quick fix. 16000 miles just under a year old. Picture taken from a video of the dashboard I took during the issue. Not pretty.

I suspect you may have drained the 12V battery. Sienna has a very small 12V battery. If you were in and out while it was on but not in "Ready" mod, it probably drained the 12V battery. The weird "parking brake unavailable" message is a tell-tell sign of the drained battery.

Sometimes, If you let it sit long enough with everything off, battery gathers up enough juice to get it all going again. I learned this from my personal experience, about 4 times!

If nothing, at least you don't have to call and wait for a tow. May be drive around a little bit in the neighborhood to see if CEL goes away? Some sort of system Initialization may be dependent on driving a few miles. Btw, do you see anything in service message in dashboard or MID?

I didn't get CEL after my battery drains so I am just thinking out loud.

FWIW, MicroMechanic like OBD2 reader could be handy. It goes for about 12 bucks or even cheaper. It's easy to use too. It won't replace trip to service station, but at least you can google service codes to see what kind of issue you got on your hands.

Unfortunately the check engine light is still on. The mid also wants me to go to the dealer. Not sure if they will want it towed to the service center but I believe they will want it towed. Definitely glad that it starts and runs and moves again but not happy with the situation…maybe has something to do with the parking brake? Only because the mid mentioned parking brake failed during the dashboard light show. Wouldn’t think that was good for all of the computers. Don’t know. Yes a obd2 reader will be a good investment. Thank you for the advice. I will definitely keep this updated tomorrow. After many feet of snow..Kind of a bummer that the rental four runners from the dealership have crap summer tires and won’t get through the chain check points not ms or winter rated. Probably the same with a Tacoma rental.

Hopefully, you will get yours running like new soon. Goodluck.

FWIW, many here have managed to accidentally drain their 12V battery. In one rare experience mantioned here so far, drained battery fried computer chip(s). Just worth mentioning.

Used to have 2000 Toyota Tacoma that was bought back at market price by Toyota because of the frame issues. That truck had other nagging issues from time to time...So I know for a fact that Toyota messes up sometimes. Especially with the US made ones like the Sienna. My guess is that the quality assurance guy had too many mai tais at Chili's that day.

Can we get a new battery installed that has a larger capacity? I'm running into this issue with my 22' Platinum as well. Been trying to find better ways to mitigate this recurring issue.

There's a thread going about bigger battery. I don't think anyone has spelled out a recommendation yet.

For normal use, the battery as is should be enough. May be wait till it needs replacement? If you need to do things while parked, I say just put it in Ready mode. It being hybrid, it burns may be 1/10th of gas parked, except in winter. For now, may be carry a 25 bucks portable charger for accidental rundowns??

The dealer took good care of us with a Tacoma loaner for the week. The sienna only had a low battery code. Hopefully this doesn’t happen again. Doubtful though. This experience has taught me. And glad everything is documented.

+1.

I am sure this was frustrating, but wait till something slides into the center console side door!! Murphy's law comes into play here too. It turns most civic minded people to go medievel ;).

I fill up my 2021 LE and go. 86,000 miles so far, and most of the times, like 90% of the times, I have 5 passengers in the car and a city block worth luggage. It hasn't missed a single beat. I'm sorrysome of you guys are going through all this

The Sienna will close an internal valve in the fuel neck and will prevent fueling if the gas door stays open for more than 30 minutes (the number may vary between generations). OP: could this have been the case? Replacing the entire fuel system, injectors and all, sounds like a pile of BS.

I look at the Highlander and Prius forums for advice on hybrids mods. Those models have been out longer. Some recommend the Optima yellow tops but I'm not sure if it is any better. There are guys running aftermarket car audio amplifiers. It's always the car audio guys pushing innovation. Lol. The owner's manual says you have to bring it in to the dealer after changing out the battery. So it's probably not that easy.

Yesterday was a dead battery for no reason. Called Toyota care and got it jumped and documented. Drove it all day no problems. Today again dead again Toyota care documentation. Same day appointment with the service center. Diagnosed good battery. Parasitic draw test. Found drawing excessively at 0.0150Ma of draw. Received aT-sb-0089-21 for DCM update. Again under warranty. I’m told the head unit was basically leaving something on. Documented and Reprogrammed and hopefully better. This has taken its toll on car confidence.
