Has anyone modified the flip up 3rd row seat, to create open storage ?
I rarely if ever need the additional seating & that area would be very useful to carry a full size spare, some tools & whatever else.
Mine is an AWD model so theres no spare carried on it currently.
At 1st look, it appears to be somewhat of a project as bracketry & upholstery would need removed in order to have the area be just an open hatch & maintain the top lid portion for the flat rear floor.

Maybe some of the camping conversion folks have looked into this ?
Thx.

Our FWD van has indentations in the left side of the cargo well so an original spec service wheel sits flat in the well. Should be a simple matter to remove the third row seats and fit a false floor above the the cargo well. Reusing sections of the third row seats to form the floor sounds like more trouble than it’s worth.

I don’t have a fancy box or anything, but just carry stuff in the third seat well… full-sized spare tire, tools, 55AH house battery, sometimes 2.5 gallons of freshwater. I did make a 1/4” plywood cutout to fit over the spare tire/tool bag to provide a flat surface.
