The platform used by the forum is paid for by advertising. The ads are served up based on many factors (that process is controlled by the platform that may or may not know/care what kind of forum this is).

The same applies to other platforms such as YouTube. You may be watching a video on a Toyota review and be served up an advertisement about pancakes.

I don't see any ads on here. As a Mod I'm sure I'm not supposed to recommend the use of an ad blocker but they do exist and they do work.

Agree, ads help to pay the server bills. And I see far fewer ads here than on a number of other forums. In the old days we dug into our pockets and helped David pay the bills. That's the only way to guarantee zero ads.

No big deal to me. Get great content, see a few ads. No problem. And an ad for a family car on a website devoted to a family car seems pretty reasonable to me.
