So I was trying to work out in my head whether there's benefit to insulating the pipes cause there's a hot and cold side, and why the engineers wouldn't have insulated the pipes if they should. Anyway, someone smarter than me seems to have explained it well here:

Long story short, it doesn't seem like there would be much benefit, since the cold side is the return to the compressor, and the line going to the evaporator which actually cools the cabin air is hot.
The fire concern on the material is also legitimate and should be considered.
