Be better with a sliding cover of some kind. Not a fan of leaving anything in the open nowadays.

But I’m gen3 and have a similar gizmo topping off my center console crevasse. Which was literally a storage game changer. Why the designers provide big empty storage holes that offer the user little convenience is confusing.
