I have all the parts to replace the muffler on my 07, it appears that the muffle is held on with two bolts that thread into a flange. There is a lot of rust from road salt on the parts, i'm concerned about breaking if off. Any tips besides heat and penetrating oil?

You will probably need new studs. I just was at Toyota today getting them for my 98 Sienna. I had to use penetrating oil and vice grips with Mapp gas to get it out. I wish I had an Oxy Acetylene torch for some massive heat.

After you put the new bolts in make sure to apply plenty of anti seize to them.

Stud remover works best but if the studs are long enough to accomodate two nuts then what you should do is install two nuts on the same stud, use two wrenches and turn them on opposite direction until the nuts lock together, now you can turn the stud like a bolt using the outer nut.heat and wd-40 helps of course.
