BSM (blind spot monitoring) dash icon after rear bumper hit

Here's a link to a past thread about the retail cost of having a BSM sensor replaced and calibrated: Rear backup sensor repair

The Toyota dealership I mentioned that sells the sensor at a healthy discount is Olathe Toyota near where I live in Kansas but I didn't check current prices: Olathe Toyota Parts Center

I doubt that your average collision repair shop can calibrate a BSM radar sensor. When my wife bumped the nose of her Prius against the spare tire on the back of a Jeep and cracked her front radar sensor (the one for PCS and DRCC), the collision repair facility took her Prius to a Toyota dealership for the calibration even though the collision repair facility is owned by the same huge company (Hendrick) that owns hundreds of dealerships including local Toyota and Lexus dealerships and most of the cars they repair are Toyota and Lexus.

Unfortunately, the radar sensors are fragile and it doesn't take much of a hit to ruin them.

If your BSM isn't working, I assume that Rear Cross Traffic Alert isn't working either. From my experience, Rear Cross Traffic Alert is far more valuable than BSM on a bus-like vehicle like the Sienna.

Consider using your insurance to pay for at least part of the repair cost. A claim like this won't necessarily affect your rates.
