Costco AWD Warranty

Anybody have experience with the costco warranty? They say in big letters that for $9.99 a corner they will treadlife warranty a tire. I now have an AWD that apparently 'eats' tires as evidenced by my whole 27,000 miles of now dangerously worn OEM tires on my 2020 AWD.

So they say in big bold print that this will be covered on a 60,000 mile tread life tire, but do they? I mean they take back dead christmas trees, so does the tire center operate the same way? A local Toyota dealer is running a 2 for 1 deal so is that better? Or should i just bite the bullet and buy the 20" wheels i've been dreaming of and hope for the best? The 20" package would come from car iD.

I read that they pro rate the tread wear so If in another 30K i only pay half of a new set that would be fine too.

I haven't bought tires from Costco nor Sam's Club in a while. I buy mainly from America's Tire, which depending on what state you are in may be called Discount Tire.

1. They are pretty good at price matching anyone, including membership clubs such as Costco and Sam's Club.

2. They also follow/provide prorated warranty on how many miles you get on a tire, per manufacturer specs. They have been less picky about having all four tires wear down symmetrically to qualify for the prorated warranty, probably because they prorate for road hazards as well. Tire destroyed at 1/2 tread depth, gets you 50% off your replacement (of the same tire or similar cost). You get worn down at 30k mi on a 60k mi tire, they give you 50% credit on the replacement.

3. Their free replacement certificates are good for the life of the tire, (at least at my local Pasadena branch), which is for up to 10 years or down to (as written) 3/32nd tread.

Ouch- sorry to hear about your tires - that is a bummer. The tire wear may be a symptom of another problem.

We have normal tire wear on our vans (perhaps even lower than normal wear), and I'm not a gentle driver. We're careful about keeping the vehicles aligned (on purchase and every new set of tires), and run ~40-42 psi all around.

The alignment does protect the tires, but it also helps traction/safety on slippery roads, and reduces wear on wheel bearings, steering and control arms. An improper alignment can also hurt fuel economy (supposedly up to 10%).

Our alignment tech is very experienced. You may want to consider finding one to diagnose your tire wear before throwing your tires away (the tires can help the tech diagnose what's going on).

It's not that the AWD Siennas eats tires, it's that the stock Bridgestone RFTs are horrible tires and don't last very long.

The stock Turanzas on my '12 AWD lasted a whole 33K miles. In between those 33K miles one tire was replaced because nails into these RFTs are often unrepairable.

I replaced them with Goodyear Assurance Tripletred (now Assurance WeatherReady) which lasted 80K miles.

The Sienna is heavy on tires, AWD or not.The only solution that seems to work is to keep the tire pressure up and maintain it religiously. Our OEM tires that were maintained at 36 PSI lasted around 14K. Since then, experimenting with inflation, we now have them at 41PSI cold and the wear has been consistent with no other issues.

There are quite a few threads on the forum.
