As the tittle says, my center console ate something and have no idea what it is, has anyone found an easy way to extract stuff that does not involve a dremel? the mouse pad hack did not work for me.
Its very frustrating to have this issue in a new car....... cant believe how it got past toyota R&D

I wrote a how to on that link. If you have any questions let me know. Its not as hard as you think, but you will need that small screw driver, patience, and band aids. I cut the wall out of mine so I don't have future issues.

I am an expert at this. There's another thread that talks about it. My son put a bunch of gift cards and coins in there. You get a thick screwdriver and you can pry it open. On the inside, use a flat blade screwdriver, then shove the screwdriver into it. The screwdriver will open up the plastic. That plastic is so thick, it will not crack, trust me, I tried to crack it. And then fish it out with something. I used my fingers and a tongue depressor that I took from the MD office...haha...

Oh, the R&D (Robots & Droids) .... maybe they had a blackout there?

We've kept cover open from day one... pre research :)
This was a really clever psychological trick, removing the lure of forbidden fruit from the console door, "Here, sweetie, you can eat absolutely anything, just keep your mouth open".

Thanks I thought it was not going to happen to us "cuz we be smart".... but no..... here we are.......
My thinking was exactly the opposite of yours, along the lines of the Murphy Law - I just made an ugly hole on the inside of the "sleeve" where the door slides into, and covered it with a piece of gaffer tape. And the result was exactly opposite as well: the thing has never swallowed anything. I am sure there is the law, too, that describes this behavior of stuff.

On a serious note: if you don't want to cut, you can pry - it is not as brittle as we would expect polystyrene to be (or whatever that plastic is)>

I saw another post of someone actually breaking the thing because he had kids crying, parents anxious and a whole bunch of chaos....... and yes he ended up damaging the plastic. I will try your method today and see how it goes
thanks!

This sort of thing happened to my Gen3 (2011xle) center console. A coin got wedged into the “drop zone” and while not as bad to fix as y’all’s issue, it was a PITA. Older car consoles were clunkier but smarter design wise. You’d think designers would learn.

I don't have sienna yet (still waiting), but l have a question: is the top of the slot that eats everything, is the top of it accessible? If nothing is already stuck in there, could a sienna owner preventitavely cover the slot with a wide semi permanent tape? To prevent anything from slipping into the slot?

No. The opening is where the lid rotates into. You will not be able to put tape over it. I covered the lid with a flat piece of rubber. Whenever I open the lid I have to slide the rubber piece and anything sitting on top of it forward. Haven’t dropped anything into the slot yet in two years.
