2004 CE with a dealer installed Audiovox overhead DVD player will not eject the disc. I can recite the entire movie and the kids are about to explode. Has anyone else encountered the same issue? Any ideas for a solution other than removing the unit to take it in to an electronics repair shop?

I don't know anything about your particular system, but you might check for a pin hole near the DVD loading area, usually below the slot on the left side that you could stick a straightened paperclip into to manually eject the disc.

Good luck!

Have you tried contacting Audiovox? I have trouble believing you're going to find an easy answer to the problem by taking the unit down. If you don't get anywhere with Audiovox tech support, I think I'd take it to a local shop that deals in Audiovox and see if they had an easy fix. If not, you're almost certainly looking at replacing the whole thing. At least it's already pre-wired so installation shouldn't be too bad.

It depends on whether your eject mechanism is working or not. If you can hear the mechanism trying to eject the CD, you should be able to either press the CD in slightly or move it up or down to get the CD out.
If the mechanism is dead, it'll be a bit difficult.
I don't have experience with car players, but on most CD systems at home, you can access the CD mechanism from the bottom and move it with your finger or a screw-driver and it'll eventually come out.

Contacting Audiovox is a good idea.

Here's another tip:

Assumptions:

* You are trying to do this on a front loading "slot" type DVD player for car
* The DVD player does not have a small "pinhole" on the front which would normally be used for manually ejecting discs.
* The DVD player is a type that will eject discs if it can not read them for any reason.

I was able to get my DVD out by:

1. Shut off the DVD player
2. Carefully slide a piece of thick paper (postcard thickness) as far into the DVD slot as you can. It will probably go in only a couple inches max.
3. Turn on the DVD player
4. Wait about 20 - 30 seconds. The DVD player should have trouble reading the disc because it is not spinning, thus it will report an error and eject the disc.
5. If this doesn't work, odds are you don't have the paper in far enough so you are not preventing it from spinning.

There is no guarantee that this process won't harm your car DVD player and/or disc so attempt at your own risk. I can tell you that I've done this several times without damage to either.

my dvd wouldn't eject either.
oddly enough it was playing, but he but the button didn't respond, and the remote wouldn't work.
there is no pin hole.
credit card trick? are kidding me? (spoiler: it scratch out the dvd)
did the disconnect battery. no wormy.

What worked for me was to remove the fuse. on a 2009.5 it's the bottom row that says 'RSE' 7.5A. I thought it was blown, at this point my attitude was why not. So I unplugged, checked(it was ok) and reinserted. turned the key to acc and pressed the eject. and it ejected. I don't know why and i don't have the time to find out why. Why removing the fuse is different than unplugging the battery.

Worked for me, too. Turned on key, took out fuse, reinstalled fuse and pressed button and out it came. Tried the piece of cardboard prior but didn't work in that case. Much appreciate y'all!
