looks great! nice troll face on your work surface! lol
Hey Memasterac, I DO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM with my alpine kit and Z140 combo. I never ever noticed it until you sent that pic-lol! I never did the install to know that it hits the back of the interior of the dash---is that right?Where did you cut away at the 2 side trims on the alpine dash kit? I can't tell from the picture you posted since it looks really flush to the Alpine recessed surface.
I had a z140 but now has a x940, both Pioneer units have clearance problem at the back against the dash. Here is a picture illustrates the problem where the whole Alpine trim/vent registers does not go back completely like the OEM radio. Mine goes as far as the picture shows (note the picture has an Alpine INA-W910 that is made for the trim kit)
Let's know how yours look after you install it, where you cut away on the Alpine kit, and more pictures...
Please do. Thanks. I saw the original holes from your picture I just have to picture the vertical trim piece until I see it. My installer told me he had to bring the Pioneer out a bit just to have more clearance at the back and he trimmed the Alpine perfect kit as well. I guess the perfect kit isn't that perfect.I trimmed about 1/4" of the 2 vertical trims from the back. When I test fitted the pioneer unit I noticed that the vertical part of the metal frame from the pioneer unit rested on the vertical trim piece of the alpine dash kit and this prevented the head unit from sliding further out to make it flush. Once you have the 2 trims pieces cut away you will also have to redrill the holes on the 2 side pieces that screw into the head unit since all of the pre-drilled holes will be off about 1/4". I'll report back when I get it installed this weekend.
Yes to all your questions. I did not mean to highjack this thread but take a look at the pictures of my x940BT, depends on the angle and from the driver view the gap isn't too bad but I am anal about little things not being perfect so I ordered a Scosche kit (only $21) just to test fit and see if the less recessed Scosche will actually eliminate the gap. I will work on this weekend to take out the Pioneer and personally inspect what's going on back there, test fit the Scosche kit, and remap the Axxess steering wheel control kit's ON/OFF hook buttons that audio shop did not do.Hey Memasterac, I DO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM with my alpine kit and Z140 combo. I also noticed that what Bkwon did is a pretty nice job. Ours doesn't look bad right now, as there are no gaps, just recessed in the nicely colored alpine kit. But it is a lot different from Bkwon's now. Way to go Bkwon.
AND Memasterac with what Bkwon has done, it should solve the other issue too...keep up us posted Bkwon!
I assume the z140, z110, x940 are all the same units in terms of size of the rear I guess?
PS-Memasterac, why did you swap out the z140 btw?
If the scosche kit is the same one from Alexapps member (that posted pics here: http://www.siennachat.com/forum/89-...ter-market-dash-navigation-sienna-2012-a.html )....Yes to all your questions. Man you are funny ;D the one you refer to is made by Metra. yeah it is a piece of flat plastic I wouldn't touch that neither.. The Scosche looks a little better and fairly color matched. It just does not look as good aesthetically compares to Alpine therefore $20 vs. $70 (the useless cable come with Alpine might cost 1/2 of the $70). But here it is you do the judge...If the scosche kit is the same one from Alexapps member (that posted pics here: http://www.siennachat.com/forum/89-...ter-market-dash-navigation-sienna-2012-a.html )....
I'm sorry, but that is so so ugly that I'd keep mine even if the whole unit was sticking out even more. Like it is so bad, looks so cheesy, I mean it is a huge flat piece with an ugly square radio in the middle----sorry but that's what I see.
The gap issue "seems" fixable with flushing like bkwon's (and yours).....his was flush the same amount forward then what was needed back there. Mine is at least 1/4" back from flush. When I go in next to my installer, I'll get to the bottom of the gap even if I have to push on the firewall to make it work!
Meanwhile, bkwon we await your results. Just maybe, maybe the "x" units are that much bigger than the "z" ones at that point? Not sure if your guy memasterac cut it just during the x940 install.
Thanks... worth a try maybe I don't have to use the Scosche kit.I had put z140bh on my sienna 2012. At first I had the the same problem as described here. I did some minor trick to make it look better. I can take the picture of mine later on. But here are some things that might help to make it look better.
1. There are 4 nuts in the back of the Alpine faceplate. You need to loose 2 lower ones, only tight 2 upper nuts.
2. Also i do not tight the Pioneer unit with the Alpine bracket, let the Pinoneer unit to be installed into the dash first.
3. When you install the trim, press in the top trim only. Do not need to press the lower trim. The lower trim will be fitted with AC faceplate later on.

Sorry my bad, you're so right. I was looking at the Metra one. This one looks fine, and for $20 why not try. It doesn't look so deep, so that might solve it right off the bat.
Keep us posted after you try our friend davd's trick, and if you try the Scosche in the end.;D
bkwon, since I am going to tackle my Axxess tomorrow at the shop so let me ask you this - the Toyota receiver harness you use for the Pioneer only has two connectors (without he 20-pin connector?) The shop did my installation and I have not yet peek the back of Pioneer. So you are proposing to cut the 20 pin harness from the Alpine then use pin 6, 7, and 8, this way you can directly connect these three wires without tapping into the factory wires? I don't think the RCA and 3.5mm jacks are any good of use for neither Pioneer nor Axxess because they are for Alpine.Guys, I was looking at the alpine harness that came with the dash kit and it appears that I can use the 20 pin harness on the alpine kit to hook up my metra axxess steering wheel module. It basically looks the same as the metra 70-8114 harness and it even comes with rca jacks which connects to your head units aux input. Looks like the 3 wires coming out of the alpine harness are the ones specified on the Axxess website to use with our sienna pin locations 6, 7 and 8. I'm doing most of the wire harness connections tonight and will tackle the install tomorrow night. Hope I can get this wrapped up Friday night so my wife doesn' wake up Saturday morning and see the Sienna dash all torn apart.
