flush mount pioneer avic z110bt to alpine perfect fit dash kit

So I opted for the more OE look of the alpine dash kit and shelled out $79 for the dash kit which came with a useless wire harness since it only works with select alpine head units. When I test fitted the pioneer unit to the alpine dash kit I noticed that the head unit sits back about 1/4 inch from the front finish trim of the alpine dash kit. I noticed that pictures of alpine units sit flush with the front trim. I wanted to achieve the same flush look as close as possible with my pioneer unit. I took out my dremel tool and started to cut away at the 2 side trims on the alpine dash kit. Here is the finished result.

looks great! nice troll face on your work surface! lol
Thanks. I was hoping to get it installed today but the wire harness and axxess steering wheel interface never got delivered today. Amazon prime 2 day delivery was today but it looks like it never made it out of my local post office this morning for delivery. I'll just plan for next weekend.
Nice work! Be sure to post some pics of it installed into the car and if possible some pics of the install itself. I'd be interested to see what's involved and possibly consider doing the same.

how big is the screen on the Pioneer unit again?
Where did you cut away at the 2 side trims on the alpine dash kit? I can't tell from the picture you posted since it looks really flush to the Alpine recessed surface.

I had a z140 but now has a x940, both Pioneer units have clearance problem at the back against the dash. Here is a picture illustrates the problem where the whole Alpine trim/vent registers does not go back completely like the OEM radio. Mine goes as far as the picture shows (note the picture has an Alpine INA-W910 that is made for the trim kit)

Let's know how yours look after you install it, where you cut away on the Alpine kit, and more pictures...

I trimmed about 1/4" of the 2 vertical trims from the back. When I test fitted the pioneer unit I noticed that the vertical part of the metal frame from the pioneer unit rested on the vertical trim piece of the alpine dash kit and this prevented the head unit from sliding further out to make it flush. Once you have the 2 trims pieces cut away you will also have to redrill the holes on the 2 side pieces that screw into the head unit since all of the pre-drilled holes will be off about 1/4". I'll report back when I get it installed this weekend.

Hey Memasterac, I DO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM with my alpine kit and Z140 combo. I never ever noticed it until you sent that pic-lol! I never did the install to know that it hits the back of the interior of the dash---is that right?
I also noticed that what Bkwon did is a pretty nice job. Ours doesn't look bad right now, as there are no gaps, just recessed in the nicely colored alpine kit. But it is a lot different from Bkwon's now. Way to go Bkwon.
AND Memasterac with what Bkwon has done, it should solve the other issue too...keep up us posted Bkwon!
I assume the z140, z110, x940 are all the same units in terms of size of the rear I guess?

PS-Memasterac, why did you swap out the z140 btw?

Please do. Thanks. I saw the original holes from your picture I just have to picture the vertical trim piece until I see it. My installer told me he had to bring the Pioneer out a bit just to have more clearance at the back and he trimmed the Alpine perfect kit as well. I guess the perfect kit isn't that perfect.

Yes to all your questions. I did not mean to highjack this thread but take a look at the pictures of my x940BT, depends on the angle and from the driver view the gap isn't too bad but I am anal about little things not being perfect so I ordered a Scosche kit (only $21) just to test fit and see if the less recessed Scosche will actually eliminate the gap. I will work on this weekend to take out the Pioneer and personally inspect what's going on back there, test fit the Scosche kit, and remap the Axxess steering wheel control kit's ON/OFF hook buttons that audio shop did not do.

As for the z140 to x940, it's a long story... I decided to redo the whole system with a second audio shop so I made the decision to go with x940 because it has "rotary knob". I am okay with smaller screen size and x940 has almost every thing z140 has, I also purchased a separate traffic unit to add on the x940.

Your head unit looks flush with the front trim and your still having issues? I hope I don't run into the same problem. I'll examine carefully also this weekend when I do my install. I'm thinking perhaps the rear mounting tabs on the alpine kit might be getting in the way since they are the fartest rear point with the radio installed.

If the scosche kit is the same one from Alexapps member (that posted pics here: http://www.siennachat.com/forum/89-...ter-market-dash-navigation-sienna-2012-a.html )....
I'm sorry, but that is so so ugly that I'd keep mine even if the whole unit was sticking out even more. Like it is so bad, looks so cheesy, I mean it is a huge flat piece with an ugly square radio in the middle----sorry but that's what I see.
The gap issue "seems" fixable with flushing like bkwon's (and yours).....his was flush the same amount forward then what was needed back there. Mine is at least 1/4" back from flush. When I go in next to my installer, I'll get to the bottom of the gap even if I have to push on the firewall to make it work!
Meanwhile, bkwon we await your results. Just maybe, maybe the "x" units are that much bigger than the "z" ones at that point? Not sure if your guy memasterac cut it just during the x940 install.
I had put z140bh on my sienna 2012. At first I had the the same problem as described here. I did some minor trick to make it look better. I can take the picture of mine later on. But here are some things that might help to make it look better.

1. There are 4 nuts in the back of the Alpine faceplate. You need to loose 2 lower ones, only tight 2 upper nuts.
2. Also i do not tight the Pioneer unit with the Alpine bracket, let the Pinoneer unit to be installed into the dash first.
3. When you install the trim, press in the top trim only. Do not need to press the lower trim. The lower trim will be fitted with AC faceplate later on.

Man you are funny ;D the one you refer to is made by Metra. yeah it is a piece of flat plastic I wouldn't touch that neither.. The Scosche looks a little better and fairly color matched. It just does not look as good aesthetically compares to Alpine therefore $20 vs. $70 (the useless cable come with Alpine might cost 1/2 of the $70). But here it is you do the judge...

"x" and "z" have almost identical dimensions according to the spec. My 1st installer for the "z" did no effort to close the gap therefor the gap is about 1/4", the "x" installer did a much better job but not 100%, but we just got a rescue from "davhd". I'll let you know which route I'll end up with.

Thanks... worth a try maybe I don't have to use the Scosche kit.

Sorry my bad, you're so right. I was looking at the Metra one. This one looks fine, and for $20 why not try. It doesn't look so deep, so that might solve it right off the bat.
Keep us posted after you try our friend davd's trick, and if you try the Scosche in the end.;D

Guys, I was looking at the alpine harness that came with the dash kit and it appears that I can use the 20 pin harness on the alpine kit to hook up my metra axxess steering wheel module. It basically looks the same as the metra 70-8114 harness and it even comes with rca jacks which connects to your head units aux input. Looks like the 3 wires coming out of the alpine harness are the ones specified on the Axxess website to use with our sienna pin locations 6, 7 and 8. I'm doing most of the wire harness connections tonight and will tackle the install tomorrow night. Hope I can get this wrapped up Friday night so my wife doesn' wake up Saturday morning and see the Sienna dash all torn apart.

bkwon, since I am going to tackle my Axxess tomorrow at the shop so let me ask you this - the Toyota receiver harness you use for the Pioneer only has two connectors (without he 20-pin connector?) The shop did my installation and I have not yet peek the back of Pioneer. So you are proposing to cut the 20 pin harness from the Alpine then use pin 6, 7, and 8, this way you can directly connect these three wires without tapping into the factory wires? I don't think the RCA and 3.5mm jacks are any good of use for neither Pioneer nor Axxess because they are for Alpine.

My shop only successfully programmed the volume up/down and skip>/<. The mode and PPT (push to talk) buttons work intermittently. The on/off hook (Metra calls it Bluetooth buttons) buttons never worked. After talking with Metra I believe I can re-map these buttons to make them work accordingly with my Pioneer x940BT. They just need to be manually programmed. I will update this with you tomorrow.
of course this is all in theory since I have not taken apart the dash to take a look. The 3 wires from the alpine 20 pin harness will be wired to the axxess module 3 wires we use for our sienna and axxess plugs into the pioneeer wired remote jack. I let you know if this works.
Just got done installing the pioneer unit. Here's what I found out about the dash not fitting tight on top. When I test fitted the pioneer unit without the wires it fit perfect with no gaps what so ever. When I tried again after all the harnesses were plugged in it was very hard to slide in and after some adjustments I was able to snap the top part of the dash in but it left a gap just like the pictures above. I spent nearly an hour adjusting and readjusting and finally managed to snap the head unit in with no gaps. After all of the trims were put back together I noticed that the top right part of the dash seems to stick out a bit but nowhere near like the ones on the pictures. The left side is still nice and tight so I am going to leave it alone for now. I will probably go back and redo the wiring harness so I can make them short as possible. I also need to reprogram the axxess steering unit since the auto detect only picked up the seek function on the steering wheel. BTW the alpine 20 pin harness works.

Basically mine is about the same after I removed the Alpine trim and Pioneer. Mine is worse because I have 2 RCA cables for aux-in and out (for rear DVD), RCA output for the amp, and traffic module, etc. I can manage to snap the top portion in but as soon as the rest panels went in it pushed the top open a bit. The only way to make the Alpine work 100% is to sand about another 1/8" at the back of the front panel like as your 1st post. I also test fit the Scosche trim and it works just fine without gap. I will use the Scosche instead of Alpine after my shop to add a LED alarm light to the Scosche.

I also tried to remap the Axxess. I confirm it works. Auto-detect will give you volume and track and maybe others but not ON/OFF hook. To remap just follow manual page 16 and 19.
memasterac, I pulled the radio out again tonight and programmed the axxess manually so now all of the steering wheel controls work now. I also put some additional tape on the top tabs so they fit more snug into the slots on the dash. This seems to help especially on the top right part. I'll see if this holds over time. If this doesn't work I will trim all of the wiring on the harness to make it short as possible this weekend.
