Hello everyone!
I just had this happen to me - 2 months after the corrosion warranty expired.
Fuel tank cover sticking out and causing my door to not open.
Since my Sienna has electric doors and I was using my fob to open it, I thought it was mechanical.
$175 diagnostic fee to be told I need a new fuel cover that will cost $630.
Well that didn’t sit well with me since I just bought this certified used car a few months ago. Not covered under any warranty, including my extended warranty. Considered a trim piece.
I did an internet search and found that this is a very common problem. Always the top hinge, never the bottom. I thought there must me a recall for this. Nope, not yet anyway.
I called Toyota Corporate Customer Care/Engagement.
While they weren’t able to find a way to help me financially, they did encourage me to tell other’s experiencing this same issue to report it. The more reports they get, the quicker a recall notice will be issued.
Please report your hinge issue to Toyota Customer Care.
