Alrighty, it took me a while to get this done as I was trying to figure out how to remove the cover for the windshield sensor housing but was able to finish it. Hopefully this will be able to help anyone who's looking to do something similar.

Required time - (If without spending time figuring how to take things apart) - 30mins to 1hr

NOTE: Using the fuse kit, you will not be able to put back the cover of the fuse box. I just put it in my glove box.

Tools:
  • (1) Katzco Voltage Continuity and Current Tester - to test and locate which fuse you'd want to use.
  • A small socket wrench, trim remover kit (just one to prevent scratches), and a small flat screwdriver (optional, I used my fingers)
  • Zip tie to tidy up the wire.

Steps:
  • (1) Start out by locating your mounting point where you'd like your dashcam to go. You can do this while having the car on and plugging it into one of the outlet sockets so you can see the camera's view for better location placement. For me, the location was right on the windshield sensor's housing cover as shown in the end result.
  • (2) Pull the rubber sealing to expose the side of the A-pillar. Just pull straight down. After that you can fish the wire connector head that will go to the dashcam behind the airbag, I just slide it all the way up to the top of the A-pillar. You DO NOT have to worry about removing the pillar at ALL (lucky us! :) ). Use a trim tool to help push the wire through if needed, my hands are small so it wasn't much of a challenge! For the bottom fishing wire, just fish it along the rubber seal side.

  • (3) Remove the overhead console from the ceiling/headliner. This is easily removable by using an angular trim remover tool. There are 2 lock on screws (no idea what to call it) by the little mirror thingy. If you slide in then push it down with the tool you will hear the pop sound, do it slowly until you get both then slide it away from you to unhook the console. Then unplug to have more access with fishing wire.

  • (4) Remove the housing cover for the windshield by sliding it downward first to unlock then pop it out by pulling downward. Here you may want to use a small angular trim remover to help with the steady popping.

  • (5) Move the rear mirror facing downward to give you more room to remove the smaller piece that helps hold the cover assembly. In between the "neck", there are two tabs (one on each side) that you can depress with your finger or a small flat head then pull out to remove the entire cover.

  • (6) Once you have access, just choose where you want to fish your wire. I did it this way so that way I have less wire hanging out and I can attach it together with the other wires on the mirror neck using that clip there that you can see. Go in reverse when you re-assemble.

  • (7) Tuck your excess wire... and those along with the headliner.

  • (8) Connect the fuse kit, I used the 10amps (volt/amp? not sure I have no idea lol) (if you look at the fuse cover, it'll say "DOME" which is constant on). Find a location to screw in your negative/ground wire, then clean up your wires however you see fit.

The highlighted screw is where I grounded my wire at. It was easy to access. After this, you can turn on the dashcam to see if it powers on without turning the car on.

Note that when you remove the original fuse, just plug it back into the other available slot. Have it facing in the same direction where you pulled it out from.

Hope this helps!

Great job! The mounting is also the one I had in mind, not on the glass but on plastic trim! :D This will definitely help. Very good write up. Btw, when fishing the cable on the A-pillar, do you position the wire close to the glass or on the other end of the A-pillar, away from the glass?

Thank you!

Only a small portion toward the windshield where the wire is fished around the A-pillar. See below where red marker is where the airbag is and the white line is where the wire went basically.

I may actually end up using the OEM plug after seeing the other post. Just trying to find the right housing for the male/female (can't tell which is which lol) that will click into the OEM plug. This way I don't have to store the fuse box's cover in the glove box.

Great! Thanks. All along I thought that the airbag was in between the speaker tweeter and the airbag sign like how the RAV4 airbag is set up. Please do update this thread if you have found the aftermarket plastic clip. I doubt there would be something available soon though (maybe at least by next year would be the earliest for aftermarket clips if I am being too optimistic, lol).

Or you can get the suggested connector from that same thread and just tape it to secure. But I would get too bothered by it so having the right matching clip is the only way for me LOL.

Just found the other thread. I guess this product from amazon should do the trick.

And found this other product too that has male pins inside but I guess we don't need it since we will be using the female plugs.

link here

I guess it should be fine even if we don't put a fuse since the factory wiring should have it already.

I actually found a compatible clip in female housing that looks like the oem version. Waiting for it to come to test for, costed 40 cents or so but shipping was $7, so I sent and bought a few other similar 5 pins housing to try.

3m tape that came along with the camera kit, nothing fancy. For the housing, it's all using OEM clips so there really anything you need to cut/trim if that's what you referred to for attaching or routing the wire
