How common is this leaking sunroof issue?

Seeing the post on leaking sunroof and all the people affected I'd like to hear from people with no issues? We have a XSE AWD with Tech coming in November here in Nova Scotia. I'm a little worried about this leaking sunroof possibility as we get a lot of rain here and I do park on a slanted driveway.

Is it a rare issue or do most have this problem?

Thanks in advance.

I've owned many Toyotas dating back to a '95 Camry, always parked outside, none of them have ever had sunroof/moonroof leaks. Owned a '12 Sienna Limited for 9+ years; the dual-sunroof and never leaked. Never had leak in my current '18 XLE. Same with the Hondas and Acuras -- never had sunroof leak. There are better things to worry about than a sunroof leak.

We were in Blacksburg VA recently in our 2021 Sienna Limited and got a long heavy rain while parked outside the hotel. I reached up into the sunroof tray from driver seat and felt a little water with my fingers. At first I was very concerned about it, and was planning to have the dealer look at it. But after reading posts here, have come to learn its normal and why they have drain tubes. So I’m not as concerned. Seems to work as designed.
I also have a 2017 Honda CRV and noticed a little wetness recently in the tray after a rain. No big deal.

Second generation: The roof tray has a drain tube, and there is one on each side. Different colored hoses ( Maybe they got the colors mixed up, and on the wrong side? 😂 ). The hose is soft so cramming something like a stiff wire to clear it might be a mistake. I have slightly rerouted the location of my drain tube.

First picture shows beginning and most of route. Second shows tray to hose detail. Last picture shows exit tube that goes to drain to the outside.

Where do the rear tubes go out to? I need to clean them from the bottom as mine seems clogged. My rear sunroof rails collect water when it rains and it leaks into the cabin when I start driving. 2020 limited.

I have the problem and I've heard a quite a few more complaints... I wouldn't suggest trying to inspect it while your driving, but just sit in it during the rain or carwash and you'll see it... I don't know about any other year, but it appears the problem is mainly with the 2021 model... There are video's on YouTube...

The Dealer had the gull to suggest that it's made this way... Try that with someone else, huh?

My sunroof leaked, dealer said it's not normal and wasnt able to replicate with pressure washer and bucket. Sent me on my way, but said that they logged the issue with a Toyota engineer. If enough people have the issue, then they'll issue a recall.
Mine looked like the drip tray was overwhelmed and leaked due to being parked on a canted street. That's the only thing we could think of.. but still, i live in socal, so if it rained like Seattle, my car would be always dripping...

21 XSE Plus. While it is usually parked in the garage, it has gone through at least two high pressure car washes plus whatever my local dealer did with the oil change. No leaks. I did take a look at the design when others starting reporting an issue, and two possibilities came to mind - 1. A defective seal or 2. Clogged drain holes. If you look at it, there are channels for the water to flow through to drain holes. I suspect in a dusty environment, they could get clogged up, causing the water to overflow out of the channels.

No issues with mine. I've had it over a year now in Florida and have been through car washes multiple times. I park mine outside, so it gets rained on often.

Parked next to it is a used 2015 Avalon hybrid with a sunroof. No leaks either.

I will be paying close attention because I noticed that both vehicles get leaves trapped in the hood and openings along the opening around the trunk or lift gate. I actually take a leaf blower to them before going to the car wash because the leaves accumulate in there.

Hope that doesn't happen in the drainage of both sunroofs.

I took ours in immediately. They could not replicate with 6 trips through the car wash and a hose running over the top. I asked if they could try it on an incline which they will do tomorrow.

they did not find any sign of permanent water damage to the liner but I am pretty upset given this is a brand new vehicle. The dealership guys have been good to deal with though.
