How reliable is the 3.5L engine?

I am looking for tips on how to keep a 2007 Sienna on the road for many miles. I just got a new job which requires a drive of 100 miles a day. I still owe on this vehicle and I am currently at 128000 miles. It does not smoke or burn any oil whatsoever, it is always full. The 3.5 is still whisper quiet and has given me ZERO issues. I was talking to a gentleman today that has owned Toyota vehicles for years, he told me not to trust the 3.5L engine. He said the 3.3L engine used in 2004-2006 vans is a much better engine.

Based on my calculations it will have 270000 miles on it when it's paid off. I am currently using PennZoil Platinum full synthetic oil in it and it is changed every 5000 miles. I know it has a timing chain that does not need replaced. Is their anything I should look out for?

Check that the oil line recall has been done.

There are 2 rubber lines that can be replaced with the newer steel lines.
The only recall outstanding is the spare tire cable.

+1 on the two oil lines being replaced with the all metal ones. For the most part the 3.5L engine is reliable. If it's not (Fibber's issues come to mind) then you'll probably have a major headache with it. Some owner's have had to replace water pumps as well.
Just keep up with the maintenance and it should last, it's a Toyota! I just replaced those those two oil lines myself this spring and it is a relief to not worry about it anymore.
Just replaced the Water Pump on my 2008 XLE (bearing failed, causing coolant loss and overheat - added distilled water to get home - about 30 minute range), which I think has been a common issue for 2007-2008 Siennas. Afterwards I did a tranny flush and added a tranny fluid line filter. Thinking of adding the tranny cooler too. That has been my only issue since new (87K miles), besides recharging A/C Freon. My tranny fluid was very dark. Replaced the thermostat, 2 idler pulleys and serp belt too. To check your water pump, release the tension on the serp belt and wiggle the water pump pulley. If you feel movement. you might be a winner.
