Flushing the cooling system, decided to renew the water outlet housing and thermostat along the way. Got this Aisin unit from RA, seems genuine, has the Tama marking, box says made in Japan. Tested it in a pot of hot water together with the old, it doesn't open even at 205 deg. while the old does. Bad unit?

answering my own question. It's actually working but differently than the old one. the bottom valve does not retract.
