I did not find any good reference in this forum that definitively said what Sienna models have the towing package. Specifically my concern was the oil cooler, as it is critical to tow up to 3500 lbs reliably. Here is a list of all the Sienna models and years that have the oil cooler:

Run flat tires and towing trailers.
Note that if your Sienna is using run flat tires (ie AWD models) then there are 2 potential issues with towing beyond the towing package: heat build up in the thick walls of the run flat tires due to trailer weight transferred through the trailer hitch, and the Run flat performance should a tire puncture happen. Most run flats say you can drive 50 miles at max of 50 mph, or 80 km at a max of 80km/h. If you are pulling a trailer both the speed and the distance the should be reduced. The extra load from the trailer on the run flat means it will fail faster. As many have noted on this forum, if you are using run flats you should run with higher tire pressure to slow the excessive wear on the outside of the front tires. I plan to mount a spare tire on the trailer or on a trailer hitch for the minivan and get rid of run flat tires, and carry a can of sealant and a compressor when around town and not on long road trips.

Hope this helps!
Robin.

Not sure where you got this list, but it isn't accurate.

My 2008 XLE DOES NOT have the oil cooler, contrary to what the list says. I believe the list shows which vehicles could potentially have the oil cooler IF it was ordered with the towing package, which was an option on certain trim levels and standard on others depending on model year.

What happycamper said!

We appreciate the effort to try and compile a comprehensive list. Accurate information is hard to come by.

For instance, the cooler was standard across the board for 2007, but was an extra cost option for 2008 - 2010 on the Gen-II models. Our 2008 didn't have it either.

I just bought a 08 sienna xle limited awd in NY and the information the dealer gave to me indicated it has the tow package which added an additional ~$200 to the price.

This thread has confused me. Did my 08 factory tow package come with an oil cooler or not? Would the oil cooler be an additional feature that also would have been indicated in the info if I had it? or Did the 08 tow package only come with a tranny cooler?

The carfax info indicated that the radiator was replaced at some point, does that mean that there isn’t a tranny cooler if the previous owner went with a cheaper radiator?

Please help. I will be hauling and towing with this vehicle and need to know. How can I figure it out myself by looking ?

From what I understand the towing prep package does include the oil cooler. But obviously the definitive answer to the question of whether or not you have the oil cooler is to look for it on your Sienna.

My 2015 Limited AWD is listed above as having the oil cooler but does not.

Agree with previous posters that we appreciate the thought, but the info does not seem accurate.

So you have two 2015 AWDs, an LE and a Limited and they both have the oil cooler?
My 2015 Limited is AWD as well, but does not have it. Maybe it was optional

I have a 2015 XLE AWD and was under the impression I don't have the towing package / oil cooler.

Does anyone have a photo of what a Gen 3 (2015) looks like with the oil cooler? The photo Geezer posted here looks different than what's under my hood.

I used Geezer1's image to conclude that my 2015 Limited AWD does not have the oil cooler. I noted minor differences (e.g. the engine cover shape) but felt like I was looking at the same engine under my hood. While from a Gen 2, Geezer1's image shows a later model one (2007-10) with the same 2GR-FE engine as we have in our 2015s.

I did get confused initially, because I accidentally printed and used a different image posted later in that same thread by BjTex1010 that shows the oil cooler parts in a 2017 SE, which has the newer motor introduced that year. So make sure you have the correct image in hand when checking your 2015.

That all being said, I also wouldn't mind seeing a picture of the 2GR-FE with the cooler in a Gen 3 Sienna, on the off-chance I'm wrong about my van not having it..

I'd have a heck of a time trying to photograph the engine oil cooler on my Sienna and I really don't really want to dangle my new $1,000 cell phone down there to try! IIRC, I used my borescope to get a good look at it.

Are there any FWD 2015-2016 Sienna or AWD 2015-2016 Sienna LE in your neighborhood or at a nearby dealership? Maybe you could pop the hood and take a look.

My 2015 Limited AWD DOES NOT have oil cooler.

I'm wonder if it can be added aftermarket or retrofit the OEM setup. I don't see any reason it cannot be done because the engines are the same. Maybe it wasn't added due to the GVWR over limited.

OK, someone had to put their cell phone at risk to capture some 2011 - 2016 Sienna 2GR-FE Oil Cooler pictures! The cooler changed shape for 2017 (2GR-FKS). The white corrugated lines to the right of the top images are the water lines for the heat exchanger.

Unfortunately, the engines ARE NOT the same. There's close to $1200 worth of parts that would have to be changed to retrofit the factory cooler. That includes the detachable lower block skirt / upper oil pan, and water pickup points in the V galley.

I pointed someone to a kit from Baxter Performance intended for a remote oil filter mount system that could conceivably be modified to feed a Hayden-style cooler that you might mount in front of the radiator.

Hmm, the remote oil filter mount sounds like a reasonable solution for the AWD owners like me. All I need is just towing a light weight camp trailer under 3500lbs. I'm ok spend another couple hundreds bucks to upgrade my Sienna rather than trade in for a big truck hauler.

You would owe us a complete report on the outcome if you choose to do this! I don't know of anyone that has actually added this to their van. I've presented this in the name of Science and Engineering, but you'd be the pioneer. And of course, this is way outside of anything Toyota would recommend!
