Maintenance Required warning light

Bought our 2005 Sienna late this last summer and the "Maint Reqd" light is flashing. Car seems to be running fine but it is time for an oil change (just over the 3,000 mile mark). Is the computer programmed to set this off after a certain amount of miles to note time for an oil change or 100,000 mile service?

It is an oil change indicator. When it gets close to the 7500 mile interval it will flash then go off when you start the engine. After you go over the 7500 miles it will stay on steady. Has to be manually reset via the little Odometer reset button on the guages when the oil is changed. You will find threads in the forum on how to reset it or in your owners manual.
Yep, mine goes off around 4500 miles then stays solid at 5000 miles. Just saying hey dont forget my oil change lol.
Thanks! Good to know it won't let me forget!

I wonder why yours happens so early. Mine starts by lighting for a minute or two around 7500 miles from last reset. After 8,000 miles, it stays on until reset.

.
From my '08 manual: When you drive for about 7200 km (4500 miles) after the engine oil replacement, this light illuminates for about 3 seconds and then flashes for about 12 seconds with the engine switch turned to the “ON” position. If you continue driving without replacing the engine oil, and if the distance driven exceeds 8000 km (5000 miles), the light will come on after the engine switch is turned to “ON” position. The light will remain on thereafter.

Didn't the oil change interval requirement drop with the intro of the 2GR-FE engine (2007)?
'05 Sienna, Flashes around 4500 miles, solid at 5K
'07 Camry, Flashes around 4500 miles, solid at 5K
'10 Corolla, Flashes around 4500 miles, solid at 5K

4500 miles = 7300 km, are you sure you have correct units??
From the 2004 manual (page 172):
(n) Engine Oil Replacement Reminder
Light (for vehicles sold in U.S.A.)
This light reminds you when to replace
the engine oil.
This light will come on when the ignition
key is turned to “ON” and will go off after
about a few seconds.
When you drive for about 8000 km (5000
miles) after the engine oil replacement,
this light illuminates for about 3 seconds
and then flashes for about 12 seconds
with the ignition key turned to the “ON”
position. If you continue driving without
replacing the engine oil, and if the distance
driven exceeds 12000 km (7500
miles), the light will come on after the
ignition key is turned to “ON” position.
The light will remain on thereafter.
If the light is flashing, we recommend that
you replace the engine oil at an early
opportunity depending on the driving and
road conditions. If the light comes on,
replace it as soon as possible.
Yes, these distances are longer than the ones given for 2008 by fibber2.

I have no idea how it actually works, because this feature is turned off for us in Canada - I suspect that it is a US federal requirement.
Mine is an 08 and that's what it says in the manual as well. I wonder If the standards changed?
