Hi everyone. I have a 2022 Sienna XLE, bought in July. I put gas on December 9 and the range it gave me was 582. I drove it a few days and I was down to 480 something range, maye even less. I go to the store last night and I notice the range is back up to 580 something. I figured it’s maybe a glitch. This morning when I got back on and turn it on the range is still in the 500s. 563 since I took my son to school this morning. Anybody know what’s going on? Thanks.

Being a Hybrid owner for now almost 8 years I can tell you from experience that the MPG is cyclical. In winter your MPgs lower and in summer they go higher.
The real trick on toyota hybrids is to let them do their job. They get better over time.

I think the answer may be in the words I have highlighted. If you clocked less than 100 miles in a few days (I assume it's 3-4 days?), it means you must have driven in a series of short trips, in a cold December weather, which tends to be the least efficient way to operate in ICE. Do you remember how many miles you actually drove during that period?

As to why it jumped back to 580, I don't know - how far was the store? was it much warmer on the day you drove there?

The proof of the pudding will be of course when you go to the gas station and find out how many gallons you have actually used since the previous fill-up

I live in Florida so the temp change hasn’t been significant the last week. I probably drove around 100 miles within those 3 days. It’s just odd that the miles to empty range jumped back up. I’m guessing it may be a sensor issue. Now I have no idea how much gas I actually have left🤦🏻‍♀️

"Miles to empty" builds on historical driving patterns. It is usually accurate within +/- 30%. It's same for all of us. It's mostly for entertainment ;).

We have some interesting reads here on it in a couple other threads. Parking on inclines/declines makes it more entertaining!
yeah I don’t know what’s going on. I didn’t park at an incline or anywhere that I haven’t parked before. So weird the miles to empty range went up. Now I have no idea how much gas I actually have left. I called the service department and maybe they’ll have a more concrete explanation. I’ll update 👌🏽

Bottom 1/3 of fuel gauge is close enough. So is the "empty" light. Monitor those and you will be fine. Btw, the empty light comes on when there's still 3 gallons left. That's good for another 75 to 100 miles.

We do monitor DTE and trip all the time but generally:

In summer we look more closely around 525 miles and in winter at about 475 miles.

Unless idling with full heat for long time the above have served us well. You just need to find out, based on more driving, what works for you. The next fill up will be informative in terms of how much gallons needed.

Otherwise just use the gauges as "guess estimates". :)

My driveway is on an incline, should I back the van in for more accurate results?
Anything but level is skewed. Unless you find yourself scrambling to find a gas stations often, I would just go by last few tanks. I usually get 450Miles in summer and 350Miles in winter per tank. While in-town, I often wait for the empty light to come up on level ground. I reset trip meters A and B and keep it on A. Under fuel section on MID, one of the view is MPG per tank. It is accurate to about +/- 10%.
