I'm switching to Mobile 1 5w-30 Synthetic at around 10k miles.
Is it OK to use the OEM filter with synthetic.
I've read from somewhere that the OEM is not good for synthetic since blar blar~~~ saying some particles are too small to be filtered by the OEM.

Any advices?

I've been using Mobil1 5W-30 with the Mobil1 filter hoping that it'll last as long as the oil.
I called Mobil and they confirmed that their filter will work fine with the longest lasting oil that they sell.
The oil analysis report in my signature also shows that the van is happy with the oil and filter combination. :)

I don't mind paying $10 for a Mobil1 filter (instead of $4? for OEM) since I change the oil only once a year.
It doesn't answer your question but it's my point of view.

I've never done an oil analysis, but have been using Castrol Syntec or Mobil1 in various vehicles over the last 20 or so years WITH OEM filters and have not had problems.

Long-term cars:
1985 Honda Prelude = sold for scrap/rebuild to mechanic friend @ 270+K miles / 11yrs
1996 Nissan Maxima = donated to charity (engine was still strong, but valve lifters were getting noisy and needed attention, + other issues) @ 270+K miles / 8yrs

Other cars:
1987(?) Cadillac Eldorado = traded-in @ 110+K miles / 16yrs
1991 Acura Legend = hand-me-down from relative so don't know past history, but have had it since 2001 & it has 151+K miles
2004 Lexus ES-330 = current @ 30+K miles
2004 Toyota Sienna = current @ 62+K miles

Good luck!!

The benefits of the more efficient synthetic media filters (Mobil 1, Purolator Plus, Amsoil), are realized mainly if you leave the oil in for long drains of 15,000 miles or more. Smaller abrasive wear particles are more likely to build up and concentrate in the oil in long drains such as this.

If you are draining a synthetic oil at 7500 miles or less, you are not going to get (much) benefit from a better than OEM filter. The smaller wear particles get drained with the oil and don't get a chance to build up to levels that cause much wear.
