2005 Toyota Sienna XLE, 97K. Navigation screen shows "Unable to read CD map" since last year. Replacement cost with a different brand $1.5K and I will see spaces around the unit. Decided to not have the GPS, since I still have the radio. 6 months later, problem with the radio. Radio will stay on whatever station and sound volume set after few minutes of driving. Had to turn off the engine and restart, to change radio station and sound volume. 3 months later, after backing up and driving forward, screen stayed, as you back up the van. I have an extra view of what's behind me while driving. My car battery got weak today and got replaced. My screen now shows "No CD map". I am unable to reject the CD map inside the unit. I still have my radio. My screen depends on whatever the mood of the car at the time I start the engine, "Unable to read CD", "Insert your DVD map", the back view or the warning message waiting for me to touch "I agree". Got to re-start if I want another screen to show. I will check with a toyota dealership for refurbish swap as mentioned above. But if it cost a lot $$$, I will stick with my current radio until it quits on me and hoping, by that time, there's a solution posted by others on this site.

Toyota Sienna 2008 Limited. Same issue as descibed in other posts. Took the Sat Nav DVD ot then when trying to re-insert clicking sound heard and it spat it back out. No definite rhyme or reason for the success, but here it goes. Two person job makes it easier!
1. Front display open and ignition key in the on position (first turn of the key)
2. As you turn the key to accessories (second key turn) then push the Sat Nav DVD into the slot, same time
3. Once DVD is all the way in, turn the ignition key back to the OFF position, stereo should beep a few times then push the close button on the dispaly panel and it shall slide up to the normal veiwing position
4. Turn the key on as per normal and start the car, the DVD booted up normally when we dit it and all was back to normal functions.

DVD interface worked, reversing camera, handsfree phone and CD stereo. Awesome! We hope this helps as we have this car imported from the USA and have almost no reliable or intelligent access to service centres with any sort of understanding of these vehicles.

Any luck with the hightechserv.com? This sounds like planned obsolescence, designing a part to fail, garnering an insane amount of money for a replacement. Unfortunately, I haven't seen enough evidence of enough failures to make for a successful lawsuit. Anyone else out there enough of an engineer to maybe have a look at one of those chips to see if it's designed to fail?

I just took my 2006 Sienna into the local Toyota dealership to replace the serpentine belt, and while it was there they recommended changing the timing belt since we had around 90k miles on the car. I agreed to that and then they told me my water pump had a small leak, which I never noticed before, but whatever, I agreed and they installed a new water pump. When I picked the van up on Satuday, the entire head unit does not work. It will not power on or anything. So I have no radio, navigation, etc....it's just black and from time to time you can all the lights pop on for a second or two before turning back off again. It repeats this pattern every 30-60 seconds or so. I took it back in and they are telling me that they didn't do anything that could effect that, it's just a coincidence, and a replacement unit is $2600. Now, everything was working when I took it in, and now it's not working and they are telling me that it's not their issue, they didn't cause it. They checked all the fuses, everything is good. They checked for power to the back of the head unit and they say there is 12v power going to the head unit, but that the head unit itself just must be bad.

I am not a fan of coincidences personally....when you are messing with my battery, alternator, etc...during your work, and I know these units are sensitive to these issues, I feel they must have done something that caused this to happen. I am just not sure how to prove this. They are telling me that they have no way to know that it wasn't working when I brought it in, which I understand....but again, I brought it in to simply replace a serpentine belt which is just a belt, no electronics are being touched.....so why would they assume I would make this stuff up. They are the ones that recommended we do the timing belt and other things while it was in their shop that would force them to start disconnecting batteries, alternators, etc... So I'm at a loss right now, I'm waiting for the service manage to call me back, but I am looking for any reasons that I can show them that they did in fact cause this to happen. I don't want to end up in small claims court over this, but I also am not about to just spend $3000 on a new unit that was working just fine on Friday and not working on Saturday when it left their facility.

Hello Everyone. I am new to this board but I think I can be of some help regarding the Blank screen on your Toyota Sienna Generation 5 Unit. The main cause of this problem is a ma-inboard which turned out to be defective and I believe the unit is replaceable if you still have warranty. However most of you probably do not have your warranty and cannot get the unit replaced and are getting quoted about $3k for a replacement unit or $1500 for a refurbished one from Toyota. What happens is overtime, the board simply goes out and has to be replaced, there is no way to fix it, only way is to replace it. Cleaning the unit, resetting your battery or taking it out and putting it back in the vehicle will do you no good. This is a hardware issue and we repair these units. We simply happen to have brand new boards in stock and can fix your unit for $450. Since these boards are impossible to get at this point, we managed to get some of these a few years back and have been fixing these units since 2009. Simply contact me through this board or contact us directly at (916)222-4746 or email us through this board and we can send you instructions on how to send in your unit for repair. Please check us out on eBay. Our user id is the same as the id here "VNS4LESS" you can check out our repair services on eBay also. I am in no way trying to sell you something on this forum, or spam this forum. Simply providing a solution to your problem and I am sure you will be happy to get your unit back to work. Turn around time is about 2 days + 5 Day shipping. Thank you once again.

i have a 2012 Toyota Seinna, the screen is blank, radio plays, along with every thing else. The screen is just blank. I accidentally hit the screen and got the GPS voice telling me to take the next exit everytime I passed an exit for three days. Any suggestions on the screen?

Same issue, Black Screen, Radio and CD work. If you shine a flashlight into the screen and look close, you can faintly see the display. Toyota dealer wants $3900 for a refurbished unit, $5500 for a new replacement. $1500 for a used one, no guarantee. You can do that on E Bay yourself for under $600. Toyota is losing it's credibility.
