Hey All-

Excited to be a part of this forum!

Well, with baby #2 on the way we had to upgrade- we got rid of my wife's Prius and got a brand new 2011 Sienna.

It all started a week ago Thursday when I knew I would be near a dealer for the day- so I took my wife's Prius and she took my car- I merely wanted to try to get a feel for what was out there and see what we could get for a trade in on her Prius. Well, needless to say I ended up coming home that night a Sienna owner- something I never intended on doing. I think if the new car buying process wasn't so much about "buy now buy now" combined with the fact that regardless of how good a deal you get you still feel like you got ripped off I wouldn't feel this way- but I can't help like feeling I could have done better and could have done more research.

Anyway, here's the deal....you let me know how I did.

We traded in my wife's Prius- 2007 with 39,000 miles and Navigation- they gave us $12,000- the KBB was $13,100. It was in very good condition.

We bought a 2011 Sienna LE- it's the one with 8 passenger seating and the V6 engine. The price on the window sticker was $30,130 and we ended up paying $26,910. That came with 2 years no scheduled maintenance as I think most new do.

I also fell for the "protection" package- Corrosion Treatment, Undercarriage treatment, interior treatment- I talked them down from $985 to $575 on that.

The last piece that is out there is the extended warranty- the price they quoted me was to extend the warranty to a 6 year 100,000 mile no deductible warranty would be $1684. I've talked them down to $1297 on the 6 year warranty and $1397 on the 7 year 100,000 miles warranty but have not acted on that yet.

Since I have felt a little remorse I have called the dealer and they have given me 3 car details- each valued at about $100.

I didn't really look around at much else- the Odyssey looks nice.....even the Caravan looked nice.....

Is my buyer's remorse warranted???

Sobo1,

You need to ask yourself if you need the extras that were upsold? How long to you keep your vehicles would be the next question?

I personally wouldn't have bought the extras from the dealer, that's a personal choice and to me that is where they make more of a profit.

It sounds like you were in a bit of a rush and not prepared to trade in the Prius for the Sienna.

By being a member of this forum you will learn things that will keep your Sienna running and will save you money. That's more valuable that any thinga dealer can provide and thousands of dollars less.

Regards, JC.
Skip ther extended warranty fpor now and talk to Doug for a price corossion package is complete dealer profit but overall you did OK
Just wait a few more months when your second child comes. As a parent, you have bought one of the safest vehicles to transport your precious ones. Giving them the best protection you can afford is the best decision.

With two children, can you get by without a minivan ? yes you can. But again, hopefully you didn't buy a minivan to keep it only a few years. When your children grow up to the age of 4 or 5 when they want to bring their bicycles to the park or to friends' house, you will appreciate the large trunk that you have. Trust me, I've been there, done that !

When you go to ski, to the beach or for a long trip, again you'll see how much you'll enjoy your minivan.

I had to laugh when I read your story about how you wound up buying your Sienna. That's how I wound up with both of mine. The first ... 2000 Sienna XLE ... I took my 1996 Corolla in for service. This brand new shiny black XLE was in the showroom and calling my name. I drove out with it that night. I put 160,000 K on it in seven years before I downsized because of rising gas prices.

Talk about regret. I regret selling it to this day!! I still bemoan that mistake.

The 2011 ... same way. Took a 6 month old 2010 Rav4 in for service. Salesman threw me the keys for a Limited that was brought in for the owner. I left with it the same night as well. I LOVE IT and will not be looking to sell or trade any time soon ... unless for another Sienna.

As for all the extras ... I like the extra "toys", but that is me. Mine is loaded with everything. I also took out the extended warranty. First time I have ever done this. I figured with all the electronics and gadgets that it was cheap insurance. I got the 200,000 K / 7 years. At the rate I am driving I'll have that in 4-5 years easily.

I'm sure you will enjoy your Sienna ... Toyota has hit a home run with the 2011 ... IMO ...

Regards

Karsty

Not sure what you meant to say by this. But my understanding is that your new van needs scheduled maintenance services but they are included in your paid price, so they're "free" for the first two years ;)
sobo, if it makes you feel any better I paid $26,000 even for our 2008 LE off the dealers lot, so you paying just $910 more than that for a 3 year newer van isn't that bad of a deal. Could I have bargained for a better deal on our van? Probably. But I'll tell you what, after 3 years of living with our van I have absolutely no regrets about either the van or the deal I made for it.
Sounds like you did good I got mine Thu a Costco deal I got the extended coverage as well.
mailto:[email protected] Contact jerry and buy the Toyta warranty from him. The price wil l blow your mind for a toyota factory warranty
