Our Van is at 8K mile and we are going on a holiday trip where we estimate to add on another 2K miles. I know the first Oil change isn't due until 10K miles.

Do you think I should wait it out and have the dealer change it during the 10K regular appointment, or have a quick drive thru oil change at Valvoline instant oil change or similar place before this trip? I wont get dealer appointment for oil change before my trip.

I would be sure to have it changed prior to 10k. And I would never take any vehicle to one of those drive through places; take it to a decent indy shop, do it yourself, or have a friend do it. Just be sure to document it and save all receipts.
I ran into the same dilemma prior to a trip to NY. The van had 9100 miles on it and the round trip would have put it over 10k. I called the dealer, and they said we could bring it in for the 1st service early, no problem. I took it in two days prior to the trip, then headed off with peace of mind that all was good.

Get it done before trip, less stress for you and Sienna.

Wish we got 2 years of free maintenance in Canada :(
Each to his own but I dont think you're missing a whole lot.
I have a 2020 with about 35k on it, I've only done 3 oil changes and nothing else. I do them myself because it doesnt matter where you take it, you have no idea what the service will be like, or what kind of clown is messing with your vehicle.
Besides the oil changes I've needed nothing on the vehicle, nothings been broken, so there's no need for anyone to touch it.
I dont think its too much to ask to expect to drive a vehicle for the first 5 years and do nothing but small regular maintenance in that time.

It's good to change the oil more often. If you want your engine to last a little past warranty use the required intervals. If you want hundreds of thousands after the warranty expires use shorter intervals. Dealerships tend to use cheap oil.

These discussions always end up the same. Many years of relentless marketing of 3000 mile oil changes by oil companies have convinced many folks that 8 or 10,000 mile oil changes are not sufficient. Oil analysis by countless folks have confirmed that following the manufacturers recommended intervals is perfectly acceptable.
If you have an older Toyota, the oil gets dirty faster. That also means the oil filter gets dirty faster. I just change the oil by monitoring the oil. I don't understand why this so hard for people to achieve. Check you oil and if it is not transparent and dark change the oil and filter.. If you plan to keep the car for hundreds of thousands of miles change it every five thousand miles . Also be aware that high quality oil and filter is also paramount. Don't forget to use quality air filter. I use OEM Toyota parts. Be careful there are a ton of counterfeit parts on E-bay and Amazon and they don't care. I have 450,000 miles on a 2001 Toyota Sienna with the original drivetrain.

We are not talking about older Toyota's. This discussion involves the 2021+ Sienna. The recommended interval for changing the oil with normal driving is 10,000 miles. The engine in the new Sienna does not run nearly as much as a non-hybrid. This engine is also extremely efficient resulting in less deposits in the oil. There is no justifiable reason for more frequent oil changes.

Definitely get it done. In the manufacturing process - there are microscopic debris that never got "flushed" from day1. In addition - this is most likely the first oil used by this engine. At the very least - the oil/oil filter should have been replaced at around 5k - imo (but you are beyond that now). First oil is always extra "dirty" (compared to 2nd, 3rd, etc) because this is the first attempt to rid of all that "debris" left by the manufacturing process and break in process.

Please do not confuse this answer with subsequent oil changes.

I still get my oil and filter changed every six months (which is around 5-6K miles).
The Car Care Nut guy (AMD) on YouTube explains it well in one of his videos and suggests oil change every 5-6K miles supported by his experience and practical examples he sees as part of his daily occupation as a Master Certified Toyota Technician.
But, to each their own.

If you accidentally place a counterfeit oil filter you will in 10,000 miles possibly damage your engine. Why take the chance..

One thing I would be concerned about driving a hybrid is not getting the gas engine to operating temperature long enough to rid moisture from the oil. I don't know if there are any studies regarding this issue.
