I just got this and no search comes up with anything in the gen 3 group. It did come on after a recent oil change.

1. Should I try another oil change?
2. Anyone have any good write ups on how to replace the oil control valve?
3. Any other ideas?

Certain years of the gen 2's would, especially 2008's generate this code.This is a vvt related system. I have had this a couple of times myself. I just reset it and it might pop up again 20,000 miles later. I have seen it twice in 127,000 miles. I do not take it too serious because its been proven that Perfectly fine vehicles can generate it. I have not heard of any gen 3 exhibiting this so it might be something to not take a lightly as i have been. Dirty oil can cause this, maybe the code was pending and decided to pop up after the change ? I was pushing to a 10,000 mile oil change when mine popped up. I have since reduced it to 8,000.

First do a fresh oil change, with correct weight oil as stated in manual. Then pull the VVTs and clean them very well. lube any o-rings. Re-install and clear the codes. See what happens. Sounds like the VVT ports are plugged up pretty good.

My 2012 had that code last year. I checked the oil control valve screens, they were clear. Also changed the oil, still came back. Ended up replacing the oil control valve with a $20 one from Rock Auto, and that fixed it. Over 5k miles ago.

Do you have any pictures or advise on it? How long did it take?

It took me about 1-1/2 hours at the most. Although that will vary greatly based upon mechanical proficiency, etc. I didn't remove the exhaust manifold completely, just removed the bolts enought to move it up enough to access the ocv.
